Not really a problem as it has gone through the MOT in this condition, more of an annoyance.
Generally first press of the pedal has little resistance, foot off and brake again provides normal resistance and healthy braking sensations.
It's not a problem as it'll stop if I push the pedal hard enough first time.
Fluid level good.
Happened after I changed the pads.
No leaks. :nenau
Changing the brake pipes is a project before next MOT anyway.

Sounds to me like you have a wear lip on your disks and new pads have not seated yet, Rick

Ah OK I think you need to check the vacuum pressure and monitor it when first applying the brake compared to further applications, I feel this is a vacuum problem but whether it is a pump problem or a servo one is yet to be ascertained, my feelings go servo but let me know the vac readings and we go from there, Rick

How do I do that then?

Ah right, you will need a vacuum gauge and easiest point to connect is the vac switch under the fuel and air filters, remove the rubber pipe from the switch and connect it to the gauge, start the car and see what reading you get, you should also get a warning light come on, now touch the brake and release, is the vac the same as before? now disconnect the larger hose to the servo and hold your finger over the end of the metal pipe, is the vac reading better now or not? let me know the results, Rick

Is there any vacuum loss in the pipework ?

I had a similar problem on my Terrano r3mR it eventually resulted in the red brake warning light flashing on briefly when I first braked as though the hand brake was not completely off. I cured it on mine by replacing all the smaller diameter vacuum hoses, for good measure I did them all eventually from the pump to the servo and the vacuum reservoir unit etc. A cheap fix use silicon vacuum hose bought on e-bay.

First port of call is going to be a complete change of fluid, then I'll look at buying guages.
Cheers.
