I'm trying to replace my brake discs and having trouble removing one of the bolts (upper one) on the caliper (still on the first side). Tried lots of Plus Gas, hitting wrench with hammer, I even have an air impact wrench which isn't helping. It was only cheap, I guess if I had a better one it would do the job?

Any tips?

Steve

OK, I found the answer: have a coffee. Must have let the plus gas soak in or something. Onwards...

i had the same problem, remove caliper and use a blow tourch to apply some heat on it the bolt (about 5-10mins should do it. this should burn off the rust which has welded the bolt in their. best of luck!

Thanks. When I went back to it, it came off relatively easy, the plusgas must have had time to soak in. Or the coffee gave me strength or something.

I now have the offside disc replaced and have taken the caliper apart. It's looking in a bit of a sorry state, hope I don't need a new one. I've done enough for today now anyway.

Once I have the two halves of the caliper separated, should the slide pins just pull out? Mine seem to be stuck fast.

After a bit of research I've realised that the pins should slide nicely. Mine are completely rusted solid - both sides. So I guess I need 2 new caliper carriers with pins and boots. Any idea where I might get some mail order? Searching only seems to turn up the calipers.

I've got the very kit from Nissan that I never got round to fitting.

Sliders for both sides boots and bolts (lucas calipers)

Its for a 1998 T2

If there the same as yours make me an offer?

This is brand new from nissan and it cost £40 odd

Looks the same, but I can't check part no. I'm at work till next week.

Is yours different?

If that is the correct part it would cost just over £40 from Nissan.

Well it looks the same, but of course it could be different in all kinds of subtle ways. The eBay vendor says Nissan list that part as suitable for 98 onwards only.

I guess I'll try my 'local' Ford dealer.

Rather than start a new thread I'll tag onto this one.

I reckon my front discs are well worn, I've no problem sorting them but as I havent dismantled anything yet (not had a chance and wondering how long the job may take) can anyone tell me what holds the discs on once the calipers are off :?

Is it a retaining screw or bolt (suspect so from the above) or as on our toyaota does the hub nut have to come off :?:

Thanks in advance to what will be a simple question answer once youve done it

Hi Daved,

The hub has to be removed and the disc is bolted to the back of it.

So its remove or swing up brake calliper, remove auto hub, remove circlip and washers etc from half shaft, remove wheel bearing nut and withdraw hub, unbolt disc from hub and replace in reverse order.

Hi Dave, I've got a set of brand new discs and pads for a T2 from Brakes International, so don't be buying new discs yet. Best part is I live round the corner from you. I've also got a new sliding pin kit for the calipers

I'm at work and will be home on tuesday night, thank god I'm sick of this place.

Cheers
