Bought a reader, but can't set it up..lol

After all my woes with my non running terrano, its doing my head in looking at it sitting here at the minute so I bought a reader off ebay and a adaptor lead, but cant get the thing to hook up with terrano, my van or my sons fiesta! Any ideas? It's a ELM327

not sure About the ELM327 except its used on italian cars mostly i think.

does it actually fit the Terrano connection under the dash? is it 14 or 16 pins...?

Think you will struggle to get any reader to work properly on a nissan.even garages unless nissan struggle.

That's what I got and it works a treat, poo to nissan :lol
You'll need the software from ecutalk though, the drinks mat that comes with the reader is only fit for air gun practice .

Have the same as petes/what clivvy linked too. Works very well.

I have ordered one as well, dont think i will get it though till i get back off if holiday. How easy is it to use and what can i do with it apart from check the fault codes.

It's just an interface, it's the ECUTALK download that does the magic
You can put 20 odd live gauges on screen and have the biggest dash board going :lol It's the quickest way to the hedge I know :augie So just have a few at a time :sly

Just got a refund off the seller so bought the Nissan Consult straight away, just hope this reader will work!!

Information overload??? oh sh1t hedge, but at least I knew the fuel temp was 42 deg going in......

They make a serial to USB converter cable, but I do not know if this will work. :nenau

Yes it will, Im being a dick, iv already got one. Now i just have to find it. I had to use one to connect my Diving computer to the laptop.

Kamsin I an following this closely because I have a 97 Maverick also and have a power problem. I have considered this, but was not sure what is necessary--I will let you sort it for me. :augie I am cheering you on and your success will mean an easier path for me. :clap

I started a thread on it and believe that we have isolated it to fuel, but it will take a bit of time to run everything down and I am leaving Monday for Israel for 2 weeks. :thumbs So I have no time to sort it right now. My thread is called "Rolling Road Test."

I also think that the laptop hook up would be a great service tool and diagnostic tool to cut some time chasing dead ends.
