Hi guys, just noticed one of my front tyres was badly and excessively worn on the inside of the tread, I went to the local tyre place to have the tracking checked to be told its wear and play in my bottom ball joint and track rod end that is causing it.
So my questions are, is it a straightforward job to replace the ball joint, it looks like it and would it be advisable to do the top one too at the same time?

Any help or advice is, as always, much appreciated.

I would do bottom and top at same time, in fact I'd be doing the other side as well, keep all 4 the same design, shape and brand

I did the passengers side ones on my maverick before, didn't touch the drivers and the truck looked wonky :doh

Beware though, Milners are currently stocking Clarke ones that don't have grease nipples and upper's do not have castle nuts and cotter pins which my MOT guy said was a fail :nenau However Elty has said that his challenge truck only has Nyloc nuts on so can't be a major issue

I just finished doing the balljoints and track rods on my 1997 T2. Planned to do only the top ones, but after removing those I noticed the bottoms ones were on the way out as well. Straightforward if you have the proper ball joint removal tool - easy to use, and no need to start swinging a hammer around with the risk of damaging other parts. Just make sure the opening is wide enough to accommodate the bottom ball joint.
And make sure you order the mounting kit (bolts, nuts) with the upper and lower balljoints - the existing bolts WILL shear.

I can confirm the Milner top ball joints comes with a nylock nut, the bottom ones with a castle nut; all without grease nipples. Track rods (I ordered the kit) have castle nuts and grease nipples.
In fact, if your budget stretches that far (mine didn't, as I had to replace exhaust and CVs), get the entire steering linkage system: steering idler, relay center rod, track rods, ball joints. Chances are the ball joints on all of them are shot, not only on your track rods...

All my new ball joints are nyloc nuts no problem with an mot. Track rods however are all castle nuts with split pins.

If the replacement part is fitted with a nyloc then surely thats fine for an mot. I think every ball joint ect on my vauxhall are nyloc. Not sure on the terrano as ive never looked, were still not talking....

my top ones went, bottoms still original 20 years, so if bottoms have gone, good chance top ones have, unless they have been replaced.
Top ones half hour job each side, you will need ball joint splitter or two hammers lol
I am guessing lowers similar.

Lower ones can be done without removing the complete hub assembly. Once all the bolts are undone the hub swings away just enough to remove old ball joint and put new one in.
