both main beams dead

1995 mistral (terrano) lwb 2.7td
Out last night, no problem at all, lengthy drive, lights on from 7 to 11.30, switching between main/dip.
Tonight flashed an oncoming car to come through a gap and headlights went off altogether.
Tried to switch on main beam, dash blue lamp is on but no main headlights at all, dip is perfect!
checked all the 15 and 20amp fuses under the dash all ok, where do I go from here?
presuming its not a relay as there should be separate ones for left and right (I think) any help advice very welcome.

Check your bulbs - I had something along these lines a few years back and it turned out to be the way the filament had gone it was shorting in the bulb and still lighting the dash ndicator.

That or it could be the relay.

well that was strange, checked power to the connector, no problem, both bulbs had indeed blown - some coincidence them going together
