looks like i have to scrap my beloved Mazda MX-6. Had its MOT today but my friend is running it as im helping him out. Failure list is huge, and im VERY surprised considering last years MOT was excellent. Anyway, I cant afford the £400 they want, nor can I afford the £350 for getting the timing belt done later this year,,,so, i am gonna have to break it for spares, then scrap the rest.

if you can get down to my neck of the woods, we have a Mazda technician in the family who would do you an excellent deal on the cam belt and all other MOT related stuff apart from any welding! If you would like to chat to him about this first PM me :thumb2

Have you taken it to the same mot tester or has someone else taken it in ,

thanks for the replied guys.

my mate took it to a local garage, who took it to the MOT tester. looking at the failure sheet, there are many points i dont believe, i know this car VERY well, so im going to get underneath tomorrow for an inspection. For a start, there is no way the handbrake has any issues, its rock solid! in fact, the whole handbrake system is brand new plus both rear caipers are brand new.

i am tempted to a second opinion, but even ifi paid to get all the faults fixed, i wont get my money back if i sell it. I already have two cars (Maverick and an MX3) so im not worried about taking my time.

Plank, many thanks for your offer, I do prefer to use Mazda techies if I can, so we will see about the cam belt job, but to be honest I cant see it happening, the clutch feels a bit low but then it always was...maybe ive just forgotten how to drive it.

those bloody leather seats are just SO COMFY its upsetting me thinking of losing it, but, thats the way it might have to go!

this car has been my pride and joy for about 4 years now, or is it 5? I loved it from day one, and i mean LOVED it! I put everything into it to get it mechanically sound, I sorted major engine mount problems myself, fixed electrical heating issue and got it running sweet as. Its never let me down, ever, and has been an absolute joy. Id have another in a flash. It was my favourite car for holidays. We loved our long trips to South Wales or Norfolk, as the car is supremely comfortable, has immense boot space and the V6 engine is absolutely superb with TONS of power, especially on the motorway!

clivvy, as you no I work in a garage but you will be surprised to no I don't take it there for its mot, all our testers are attuned to making money for the gaffer so there mot standards are the same for all, even co workers. I take my car to my local council, councils have their own mot stations to do their own fleet in doing so they have to provide the same service to the public. As they don't have a vested interest in failing a car because they don't do public repairs they are less likely to fail it. For example a garage I worked at once every mot failed on wipers, needed or not. Ive taken my may to the council for about 5 years now and it failed once on rear roll bar drop links and oh yes it needed them.

cheers Illy. i am going to inspect the car today and check the failure list, most of it is VERY suspect. If i feel its worth it, ill re test it either as you say, with the council, or my main guy Tony in Elland, hes a good egg.
