Just a quickie, when I fire up the mav I get Blue smoke for a few seconds.

Don't seem to be burning oil, as I have only had to to abit in since I did a oil change, about 3 months ago.

While ticking over/driving there is no smoke at all I can see even when putting my foot down.

Just wondering if anyone as any thoughts on this?

I think its the valve seals?

Paul.

More than likely valve stem oil seals as you suspect, unless it gets really bad not worth bothering with inho - you shouldn't really need to add any oil between services unless you have a leak or it's burning it someway, I don't on mine and its got 124K on the clock.

Ours as about that on the clock, only topped her up after the oil had settled when I did the oil change, only asked for peace of mind & now got it.TA..

I did not this yesterday as well!! a small haze of blue smoke on start up,but nothing after this, not loosing any oil!..Only other time i have noticed it smoking is if i change down and give it a bit of welly to overtake, but i think this is common for diesels as i have seen plenty diesels doing this!! 8)

Blue smokeon start up

Hi Paul332

Blue smoke for the first few seconds on start up - nothing unusual for diesels, it's just the first few strokes not fully burning the injected vapor because the combustion chamber is still cool.

My T2's had new rings, new head with valves ground and seated and I experience the same phenomenon. Don't worry about it - until you get lots of blue smoke when she's hot and working hard. That means there's oil getting into the combustion chamber and being burned with the injected fuel. If you need more info post again and I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will put you straight.

Regards CL

i agree with the others diesels are allways a bit on the smoky side, and do breath a bit harder than petrols due to much higher compression, so that may be the answer to your oil issues, and at its age and milage a few signs of wear and tear are perfectly normal.
