Bluddie rattle

this pigging tinny rattle is getting on my tits ,some days it doesnt make the noise , but most days it does ..... and its getting worse ( and louder ) ....it seems to get worse the more i use it..... ie on a long run...... and heres the strange thing ..... it seems to get worse when i turn right .... its not a clunking noise , its a very tinny type rattle , it seems to be coming from the rear brakes , or the exhaust , but my buddy crawled under to check the exhaust and he said it was nice and tight ..... im not sure it is the arb drop links because its not a clunking noise .....but the brakes seem ok and stop in a straight line , and the handbrake seems ok and holds uphill.....THIS RATTLE IS REALLY GETTING ON MY TITS ..... help ? any ideas ?

this rattle is heard loudly outside the car, and is very embarrasing , in my opinion ( i know nothing lol ) it seems to be coming from the rear brakes , but im not 100% sure, trouble is if i take it to the garage ( gotta find a good one round here first lol ) and they take the brake drums off and everything collapses as ive been warned .....krap fit ( and i guess other garages too ) cant order the brake shoes / pads etc because when they enter the reg number it doesnt come up as a terrano or maverick , EVEN THO ITS THE SAME BLUDDIE VEHICLE , krap fit also mentioned something about a fitting kit which includes springs etc , because he thought it was a spring in the brake drum that was loose.... but im not sure cos my brakes work ok , but he said 70% of your braking is done by the front , so you may not notice ..... is that borrox ? :nenau

its not borrax pete . you only get a little rear breaking.

but it could be anything from number plate rattle to exhaust. just enjoy it i doubt anything is wrong


they just rattle some cars do


milners do pads and shoes for the misteral . and they are different to the t2 so caution

Hi Briggie,
To remove the rear drums you MUST slacken the handbrake adjuster, which on a manual is under the handbrake, so you have to remove the handbrake squab.. Then use a couple of 8 mm bolts to ease the drum off, tapping the drum with a soft faced mallet as you go, then the brake shoes should remain in place.

I had a high pitched rattle, it was on the exhaust clamp that attaches to the gearbox. The fixing bolt comes loose, a member suggested putting an extra lock nut on, and it has never rattled again.

I hate rattles and squeeks, many years ago (13+) the suspension had a squeek, so I waxoyled every joint and bolt, and it has never rattled since, and is still on all the original bushes. ( except for Front ARB drop links).

its a auto rustic .... but i spose that doesnt make any difference , .... whats this about a fitting kit ? ..... if i order the bits from milners do you think krap fit will fit them ? ..... my logic is if i replace them it cant do any harm , and it eliminates one possible cause .

i doubt they will fit pete, unless they are friendly, the thing these days is they dont want people blaming them for ill fitting aftermarket parts lol. on my mazda, with calipers, i had a rattle that was simply the anti rattle clips-worn, fitted new ones and hey presto fixed. not sure how similar it is on drums...

i'm late to this thread so i assume you have allready tried turning the stereo up?

we think we have fixed it, im 100% sure in fact.

the rattle was a set of small pipe brackets running down the drivers side of the engine, just by the drop links etc. The brackets attach over two thick pipes, but they were loose, and the only visible attachment was "too far" away from the brackets for them to be bolted in place (perhaps due to the pipes being moved?) anyway, i simply took just one of the clips off and voila, see pic below:

as for the sunroof, I tightnened up the screws as suggested by another member, but im not convined its going to hold, the screws did tighten up, but were still slack, if that makes sense, heres a pic:

there are 4 screws all in all, one either side, two in the middle. the screws were definatly loose, and the thing they were holding down was loose and rattly, now its as solid as it can be, may rattle loose again though we shall see. these are on the sun roof cover, access from sunroof outside when in tilt mode...
