Black round bits (Tyres)

I'm looking to change the front tyres before winter sets in. Having previously had low profiles the world of T2 suitable tyres is a new and mysterious one :!:

I'll be using the car on a day to day basis on mixed roads but caravaning on a regular basis to "more basic" sites and locations. So I guess thats "mixed use" ??

I dont want real cheapo tyres (more a trust thing than anything else) but my budget doesnt go to premium. On my last car I used to, after haggling pay around £65 to £70 a corner for Pirellis so any reduction would be just great.

Any advice gratefully accepted on brands types etc.

Oh, theyre standard size so thats 235/70 R 16 I think.

I'm running Falken AT's 235/75R15 but I think they come in your size :? TBH I can't fault them, they have been fantastic on road & have given more grip in the wet & dry than the Bridgestone Duellers (road bias) the T2 came with, off road agin I cant fault them as they have taken me where I wanted to go , & were about £64 a corner which is cheaper than what I was paying for tyres for my Mondeo I had before the T2

best go ATs as all rounders. budgets are fine when i had my mistral i put marshals on it and it they ran fine and only cost 200 quid for a full set

Yup - what they said (seem to be following sweety round here) - just take a look at the AT tread before you commit. My bro in laws Disco2 came with AT's fitted but they're extremely road biased and look more like performance road rubber. They are the exception though.

Unless you really get the mud bug MT's will just be noisy, use more fuel and wear out faster if used on the road all the time.

not all at are equal.

ive go general at2 cos tread was near identical to bfg at at about
2/3s price. try black circles site got my 4 for about £270 fitted at
a local tyre shop.

good on road as thru plenty of mud tho clearly not mts good
compromise.

I've got a set of 16" General Grabbers AT2 on me alloys and i'll be putting them back on when the winter comes.
Good tyre in the snow and ice

I'm running a set of 31" Wide Conquerers AT on 15" Pajero rims with 30mm spacers. :wink:
Will prob have to change them next year though!,so maybe going upto 32".
Might be a MT next time though!! :wink: :lol: :lol:

I would recommend General Grabbers AT2 1 ran them on my 3.0lt T2 for 50k still like new when I sold the car
I have now got Patrol 3.0 and fitted 265/70/R17 General Grabbers AT2 fitted at 5k mileage now 14k still like new £445.00 for a set of 5
( brilliant of road and don't half hang on on-road )
No noticeable increase in road noise or lose of mpg

31" whats that in tyre sizings?

Larger/americn tyres ae quoted by their imperial sizing.

A 31/10.5/15 is 31" tall 10.5" wide and fits a 15" rim.

Its roughly equivalent of a 265/75/15

But be aware different brands come out different sizes regardlessof wht it says on the tyre wall. Before I lifted my truck 30's were catching and i had to remove the front mudflaps. any bigger an i'd have had to attack the bady work. Other people have fitted 31s with no problems. To truelly make room for larger tyres you need to do a body lift, if you use a spring lift the tyres can still touch the body with the suspension compressed, unless you fit larger bumpstops but then you loose suspension travel.

Hi HB :smile: Can I ask where 31" tyres may catch the body work :? I've trimed my front mudflaps back so they should'nt catch when I fit 31's & to keep the shape of the plastic arch at the bottom

Wouls have rubbed on mine at the back of the front arch where the body seam is covered by the plastic arch liner, other people have had to trimtheir front bumper though, but not sure where, think Sharkie was one of them but he had spacers on too, might be the combination of 31s and soacers on full lock.

I have a feeling it depends what condition your rear bottom arm bushes are in.

With my 31" on,i only had to take the front mud flabs off,going to trim them like Sweety and put them back on.
Clearance is fine for the front bumper,maybe slightly different for the mk3 to the mk2 like Sweety's.
Mind,the tread is prity well worn on them!!
