Bit on the side

I haven't been keeping up to things on here recently, I keep popping on just to read the posts but have been busy on another project so haven't had the time to post. The good news is it's nearly finished, so I can let you have a sneak peek.
Some of you will remember about 6 months ago I got my first Bike for 35 years.
It was only a 125 but it was just something to get me back on two wheels again

However lots of you said it would be too slow and I would be looking for something bigger sooner rather than later. and you were right
So for the last several weeks I have been working on a new bike and here it is .
It's a 1992 Honda ST1100 Pan European,was in a bit of a state but all there.

Nice bike in my biking days (packed up 7 years or so ago) I always fancied one but they were outside my budget.

Ended up with a Yamaha XJ 900 that I bought in 1995 and sold in 2009 !

Only parted with the XJ as I struggled to pull it onto the centre stand!

Me to mate, looks really good :thumb2 . Should help with the motivation to get my bike test done. Have been thinking about it for awhile now.

I was in such a rush to get started I didn't take any pic's of it before i striped it naked , butt there wasn't that much wrong with the body panels just a few cracks and splits which I arreldite'ed .but underneath it was relay grubby with some rust on most of the welded joints.

First major job was to strip all the back end. rear shock (just the one) dive shaft and swing arm

I love how you go from a 125 to 1100. One of my old neighbours found his self in similar situation hadn't ridden a bike for years then bought himself a 1800 Honda last I saw him he had a v8 boss hoss which he imported.

It was very strange ,it felt huge for the first couple of miles but then it was like I had never been away from biger bikes? and it handles far better than the 125 which cornered like a washing machine

First major setback was the swing arm, these are notorious for rotting on these bikes, for some reason Honda decided that they only needed half a rear mud guard and it stops just after the battery box, so all the water gets thrown on to the bottom of the fuel tank the alternator and the swing arm. :doh Luckily I have a friend who was a ship welder and he re fabricated it for me. :bow
