I have today been mainly fitting a bigger intercooler :sly
Got a TD5 one cheap off fleabay as it's bigger than the little terrano one.
I've already fitted a scooby bonnet scoop for a bigger frontal area to scoop in all that luverly cold air :thumbs

So whipped out the old one

Which leaves all this space (I'm doing my injectors while I'm here btw)

Now I've lifted my truck by 50mm so have more room to accomodate this bigger I/C :sly Just roughly plonked in place here to see what's what.

I want to have it on a tilt too so I get even more air through it and less across it. So here's the first rough bracket fitting for the front.

Next some more bendy brackets for the back of the I/C, this time bigger than the fronts to get the tilt I'm after.

That's as far as I got tonight as the ruddy sun went home early
So I'll finish the brackets properly tomorrow and bolt it all in properly. Then sort out some nice silicone bends etc to join up to the turbo and inlet manifold.
Watch this space :D

ooooohhhh//// likey!

what do you expect to gain from the TD5 intercooleR??

so why ya still going top mounted. have you allowed for the body lift . how are you directing the air through the cooler now you have lost the rubber duct ?

although its bigger, is it faster flow ?

Front mount is pointless off road as it just gets full of crud and restricts flow over the rad, which don't want.
I've not had the rubber gasket thing on for ages and didn't notice any difference actually.
However once it's all in I'll reinstate some sort of rubbery-ness round it :D
I've raised it up a fair way to make use of the body lift space and angled it to get more flow through it :thumb2
Will see how it pans out soon enough :naughty

Ah you mean through the I/C , erm, I have no idea :augie
I'll have to stick the wife's hoover on it and check her suck :sly:naughty:lol

Ya got ya fan so that will increase the air flow :augie

How about a heat shield under it :augie :nenau

heat shield i was looking at shower wedi board. its solid waterproof and has insulating properties .so should keep heat out

wouldn't a heat shield restrict air flow, as it wouldn't escape from underneath as quick? Surely the air flowing down wards under pressure deflects the heat from the engine anyway? :nenau

Ah well there you go see, I've done a body lift and so an extra 50mm of space to play with :D So the idea is to fit the heat shield as close as poss to the engine and so not interfere with air flow :thumbs

looks good, will be interested to how much difference it gives.

The T2 inter cooler could only be described as a very poor attempt at cooling, it is far to small and in the wrong place, so any thing to improve it must be good, Rick

Ah ar, you beat me to it, i was going to ask if you were fitting fans to it. other wise when roading the bigger cooler wont make any difference as there would be no ait flow.

Yep already had fan on the old one and water spray. Twin fans on the new one and another spray nozzle :naughty

you're supposed to put the water in the motor's mouth not on it's head :doh :naughty :lol
