Hi there can anyone tell me where I can get a higher capacity alternator from?
Pref. one I can liberate from the scrapyard:sly

i was thinking of adding a second alternator and battery and run it off the spare belt holder used for the air con (not fitted on mine )
i got a load of spares coming real soon :lol:lol:lol:augie:doh
that should be a good start

I've got a 150amp unit to go on but have no idea how easy its going to be. PLan is to fit it in place of the standard one and carry the standard one as a spare.

If you take a look most big diesels, especially vans are now using 100+ amp alternators and so are some bigger petrol engine. Used to be it was hard to get over 75amp but a lot easier now.

One thing to check is does your current alternator have a built in vacume pump in which case you'll need one tha also does if replacing it.

Using the vacant aircon pump pulley is a good idea but unless you get the laternators matched you will need to keep the circuits completely separate from each other. I want to be able to connect the batteries later for high currents when winching so i big alternator is a better option for me. I also have other plans for that spare pulley.....

I also have other plans for that spare pulley.....

Anything to do with front diff lock?
OR are supercharging?

while we are talking air con..... could you re direct the air con to blow over the intercooler..... any profit in that ?

Been wondering if a alt from a Navara as bigger amps & wil fit??

Might do but is it really worth the effort and cost for an extra 20Amp.

2.7 TDi T2 - 70amp
3.0Ztdi T2 - 90amp
Navara - 90amp
Was hoping they was higher amp's than that..Back to the drawing board then..:D

why cant you use 2 alternaters 2x70 amps?? just a thought :thumbs

You can but unless they are perfectly matched or completely isolated from each other one can fry the other.

thanks Terranosaurus, i can now see the problem, so would it work with, say another battery for a winch with its own alternater, and the std t2 batt and alternater, i suppose it would be better to have 2x bigger amp battries.
