nothing to do with the terra as yet but watch this space things may change, i run a small modest motor bike training school every sunday i put a couple of bikes into my van and transport them about 2 miles down the road to a local school where i use there car park for initial bike lessons ( legal requirement to start on an off road site ) which i have to have inspected and insured. and of course i pay to use it.

been listerning to the radio the last week or so and they have been playing the low emmisions zone advert diesel vehicles small vans, camper vans, horse boxes, motor homes and the like will have to pay £100 per day to drive with in the M25 so i check my van on the data base and yep i will have to pay the fee to drive my van or buy a new one, thats not gonna happen.

this is the thing because of its age (1996) i cant have it tested to see if it meets the emission level i know it does as iv had it tested mot time if it didnt i would run it on svo or bi deisel which would produce zero emmisions but they list and excluded bio diesel as an alternate fuel type :doh only listing LPG

if you own a terra commercial go check up on the TFL web site you mite get a nasty shock

I was reading of a man with a motor home who lives 100 yards within the LEZ zone and it will cost him £100 each time he takes it off his drive, and another £100 to bring it back in!

Has it is now you can not visit either of the caravan club sites in the London area in an older motor home without incurring a charge.

regards bri

this new government takes the pi$$, just today i was reading our local paper and it says people claming benefit has risen sharply, what do they expect with all these so called cuts and all the job losses, so now yet again they are targeting the bloke that owns a car, they know we can't afford these new low emission cars so instead they will tax us for useing the older cars, and when we try to use a fuel that is eco friendly they exclude it, typical tory government, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, i in all honesty would fully support a revolution, i'm self employed but am finding myself turning work down just for the fact of the fuel costs to get there, on the plus side i did find a cheaper insurer for my renewal lol

any chance....

of posting a link to were anyone can enter their registartion to see if it affects them?

dont get me wrong, but is this not old news, i mean the lez has been in place for bloody years. why moan about it now. has something changed ???

the van trick was down to ken livingstone been on cards for about 4-5yrs read all about it on transit forum yrs ago, like all taxes there put in place with the promise itll be reviewed but once they get that wedge of dosh in there coffers there never gonna let it go,would you?.
as its a green tax and its been proved the green stuffs al bull wheres the justification, after all mrs thatchers government was telling us were all doomed as the new ice age was comming.

Don't be so frickin hysterical ladies. As Ex says the LEZ has been around for donkeys.

Firstly, if you put your reg in you'll find you aren't affected. I also doubt that many motorhomes etc are affected, ditto light vans. This is aimed at HGV and larger vehicles mainly, or really old polluting vehicles.

And if it ever gets to £100 a day I'll pay it OK? :doh

Bottom line is, if you live in a dump like London anyway its bad enough, but to be subjected to carcinogenic pollutants as well as even worse, so I don't blame 'em.

Boris has actually reduced the size of the congestion zone, so fair play to him....this is about reducing pollution which can't be a bad thing can it.

Ferkin well said. :clap

Neither my old t2 or the new Peugeot Partner are affected.

I have checked my pals Hymer with Merc diesel engine it's about eight years old, it was non compliant which means it would cost him £ 100 if he should stray into the zone, thats each time. The zone is very large and you could find it difficult to avoid whilst visiting the south east as a stranger .

Low Emission Zone Compliance Checker

The Mayor has confirmed the Low Emission Zone will now affect larger vans, minibuses, motor caravans and other specialist vehicles from 3 January 2012.

As a result of this decision TfL are updating our vehicle database. Whilst this work is in progress the compliance checker may not in all cases accurately return the vehicle compliance status. You can check your vehicle status using the compliance flowchart whilst this work is being completed.

Where is this government or TfL website that says its £100 a day?:nenau

£100 per day or £1000 fine

it is £100 per day and i dont live in london im in the burbs right on the edge my van a 1996 boxer all kitted out for my work i drive it 5 miles a week but as im in the zone thats £100 please or a £1000 fine it will cost £1500 to have it converted you have to pay to have it checked every year by vosa they do a smoke test only they dont measure emisions :doh on top of your mot it may take 10 days for tfl to update there records so you have to pay the £100 per day until its updated if you drive it in the mean time

give me a brake

come jan 2010 im screwed new rules from brussels means i have to change my bike fleet to minimum 600c engine bikes for learners taking the test the 500cc one i use at present will not be allowed by the end of the year

there are on 9 approved installers on the tfl web site time to sell up and sign on its just not worth the hassle of running my own business as if the introduction of the new bike test wasnt bad enough

rant over
