Of the diesels it's the td42 right? :nenau

And secondly where can I get one from?

The BC stroker kit for the Nissan Patrol TB48 engine platform incorporates a 108mm stroke, steel billet crank, BC 4340 Pro Series connecting rods rated to 1200+ horsepower. Depending on bore size that you decide, the BC kit will take you up to a 5.15L with 100.5mm bore. As usual, each BC kit features custom CP aluminum forged pistons, 9310 alloy wrist pins, ring pack and buttons. Available in any desired bore and compression ratio for use in turbo or normally aspirated.

Bet that doesn't come cheap:eek:,I know of a 4.2 for sale here in France,RHD,not bad condition open to offers.
 
The best engine was the y60 Rb30et
The most reliable was the pre 1993 TD42
The most fuel efficient was the RD28T
The most powerful was the TB42
The worst engine was the post 1993 TD42 as it was a redesigned casting that although made it more efficient and rev higher the down side was it was weaker.

I thought the year was vague as some early blacktops were the same as the earlier silvertops?

Silver top/ black top denotes whether it was assembled by Nissan Motor Co or its heavy commercial division UD trucks. who assembled the patrols for military use.

the year is not vague.

it was 1993, but depending on what engine stocks was located at what assembly plants around depended on what patrol got what engine.

Some pre 93 got the lighter engine as they arrived from japan and some post 93 still got the earlier block until that stock was used up.

Whereabouts in New Zealand are you,my mum came from Wairoa in the North Island?I'm in France and have got a 2.8TD Y60 Patrol,had a 4.2 Patrol as well,the mod for glow plugs is interesting to simplify the sourcing of the 4,5 and 6 plugs via the UK(expensive here in France):thumb2
