OMG the last flying Lancaster bomber in the UK has had an engine fire today whilst flying over Lincolnshire. The crew landed her back at Conningsby and the Fire section was able to put the fire out. Thank goodness the crew are all ok and also the aircraft. Itll be a while before thats back in our skies, fingers crossed its back in the air this year.

Sad news for Lancaster fans today. 'Thumper' the Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight suffered an airborne fire in no.4 engine. Thankfully the crew got her down safe at RAF Coningsby. Subject to a damage report the aircraft could be out of action for sometime.

sad news indeed, but there has to come a time when it is no longer viable to keep flying these machines, would it not be better to keep them safe on the ground with the knowledge that they are far less likely to suffer serious damage and so could be with us for far longer, just a thought, Rick
