when i lift the bonnet i can nearly always here the battery bubling... why? does anybody know its doing my head in?

cheers larson

In the past I would have said it may be overcharging/overheating? however when I got my T2 the battery on that bubbled and overflowed  when I got it sussed all that happened was that some half wit had helpfully topped it up too far when it was serviced by the seller :doh

As yours is relatively new to you could that be the problem?

thank you, i will have a look........ or maybe ill just leave it until its spits out all the extra fulid:lol

thats why im fat. lazy people always end up fat...:lol:lol:lol:lol

If you are doing 20/30 mile trips then about normal, if you are only running round town, short trips then I would suspect over charging, it would be worth putting a good meter on it after a run, 14.8 should be the max, (this is the gassing voltage), and after a predetermined time (absorbtion) it should drop back to 13.8 (float charge) if it stays at 14.8 for too long or goes over then the regulator in the alternator has failed, and will cook your battery, Rick

Hi Larson, if you can't get hold of a volt meter to check voltage just give me a bell and you'd be more than welcome over here to use mine.

Jim

thats almost sounds like a plan .. but i dont know how to use one:augie

on the ausie foum they recon i might need to check a regulator but i dont know were that is or what it looks like:lol:lol

im a lost cause

The regulator is in the back of the alternator, part of the brush holder, but not worth playing about with, if its gone recon alternator is best, or one from scrappy and take a chance, Rick
