Hi all,

Think i am in need of a new battery as it keeps going flat. Checked the voltage when started and showing 14.6v so presume the charging system is working ok. Have charged the battery but goes flat after a day or two. I am not sure if it is the original battery as it looks a little small does any one know what dimensions model no/spec the battery should be and any reliable online suppliers. Ooops it a 3.0 55 plate model forgot to mention.

Cheers Jon

You could have a electrical drain on battery from a consumer such as interior light etc.
The only way to check is to put an amp metre between the positive battery pole and positive battery lead (disconnected) and check the voltage drop over a period of time, you should get no more than approx .20 milliamp but check manufacture.

TURN OFF INTERIOR LIGHTS REMOVE IGNITION KEY

See hear:

If the readings too high, start by removing each fuse in turn (as you have the interior lights switched off, this will not effect reading when opening door) and check reading, if reading drops when a fuse is removed you have now found the problem drain and need to investigate on that circuit.

Hope this helps :thumb2

When i bought mine it had a duff battery.
Problem is you cannot get a very big battery in these.

I had a hell of a job getting one that fitted correctly as the books said the wrong one when upping the rating.

Took the whole car to a specialist and he matched a battery to fit in the car.

i.e. Terminal orientation, fitting, size etc.

mine had similar symptoms , dirty connections. i did a long thread on it ill try to find it.

Numax CXV27MF fits a treat - its about as big a battery as you can physically fit and that range of Numax batteries are a really good trade off with A/hr against cranking amps.

Not as high CCA as a Optimax (yellow or red top) but over twice the capacity - I've got 2 of em on mine. Don't be put off cos its sold as a leisure battery - its a marine battery designed for cranking use and supplying auxillaries too. Caravans are starting to need this sort as leisure batteries because of the increased use of motor movers.
