my t2 gave up again last friday, after changing crank sensor it worked perfectly for a fortnight then stopped me dead, had to get a lift home, was`nt i peaved after a long shift. the MIL light constantly flashes it will turn over but wont start. i had a bloke out to look at it, he had a van full of gizmos and leads but he couldnt do it either. he reset both ignition keys put new batteries in the plips, checked for codes, none in memory disconnected battery for 15 mins to reset no joy there, refering to his data it said if light on top of dashboard flashes it indicates imobiliser is on, when you turn key the light should go out but it dont. it suggests if still flashes consult dealer for nissan software to reset immobiliser. that sounds expensive, does anyone know how to reset the emmobiliser other than tow it to a dealer. its got me well and truly stumped please help:nenau:nenau:doh

being a 98 motor I tkink it will be a NATS 2, cannot be overridden, think you have no choice but main stealers, I have the same on my new off road motor so was having a play the other day as the dash light does not come on and it is not the led, I wanted it to work in order to read the fault codes, so had to hook up the lap top instead, the light is wired direct to the radio lock/unlock receiver I do not have a blip, but might try the wifes and reprogram it, never know it might kick the light into working, I do have a spare immobiliser, but I think they are tied to the ecu although I have not tried re programming the key to it, but just had a thought, I have the key that went with the other immobiliser I have, simple matter to swap the IM over and try starting with the matching key (lock is well worn) so should turn, will get back a bit later with results, Rick

Learning all the time, swapped the IM and used the key that came with it and it started, so the IM is NOT tied into the ecu however the dash light still does not work, I will try a blip on it as soon as I can but a bit busy at the mo what with the repairs to my own motor and that has put me behind on other jobs, Rick

cheers rick, the bloke who checked it out said the immobiiliser is tied into the ecu, he said the jap 4x4s are a nightmare to crack. mitsubushi , nissan, suzuki, are all programmed so well you have to have their software to complete any niggly fault. thats not what i wanted to hear he tried all the basics recoded the keys clear codes, new batteries in the plips, disconnect the battery to run the power from ecu, it still bloody flashed. he`s now searching for a program in his database to reset the ecu, but it draws a block end, stating dealer software needed to reset, that dont sound good i found another auto electician who claims he`s got the software to do it, but wants me to fetch the vehicle to him doooh as i first said to him it wont start,:doh he wants extra 30 quid to call out. i fear its goyin to cost me more than its worth.:nenau

aah where is the immobiliser situated, my local scrapyard has a t2 same year as mine, with ignition and key if i could get the barrel key and immobiliser i may be able to swap the lot over might be an alternative way round it. thanks rick your a legend .

it is behind the heater controls panel to the left if the controls, not too hard to get to, it is a small black plastic box with Siemens written on it, you only need the key the barrel may be hard to get off, just prise out the red plastic bit and insert it in your key you will not have to do the door locks as well then, Rick

Just an update, after I swapped the IM on my new off road motor as a test to see if it was tied into the ecu and found it is not, have left it there, just been out and can see the dash light is now flashing, so that is a result, just have to swap the red bit on the key now to use the original key, learning all the time, Rick
