yesterday my car gave out quite a big puff of blueish/grey smoke , didn't last long , and then was ok , most of yesterday my car was running on tick over ( so I could run my radio ) , this happened a few minutes after restarting it to come home ........ its been ok since ..... any ideas chaps ?

How long had it been on tickover for? Chances are it just blew out a load of crap if it had previously been on tickover for a long time.

If you do an event like that again Gerald has a few 12v batteries that he can lend out. Saves running the engine or risking your car battery.

had been on tick over for a few hours jim ,fuel gauge hardly moved though :augie , im looking at a few ideas for future events though :naughty

That's a long time for an engine to be purring away :thumb2

having an engine idling for that long you would expect it to smoke for bit when you drive as all day it it has built up a film of oil/fuel in the exhaust that did not get hot enough to burn off, Rick

its been ok since , so you must be right rick ( as usual :thumb2 )

yup , my dc socket only works when the ign is on , doesn't work on acc , and im not allowed to modify the car
Find the fuse box, add one of those piggy back fuses to a fuse that is live all the time, and has a suitably sized fuse, so you know wiring can take it.
Then add a trailing cigar socket to that. Earth on nearest metal part...

You could remove the accessory socket fuse, then use a piggy back fuse, to feed the accessory socket either using an old blown fuse for the contact, or a male 1/4" faston connector.
Then when you return the car, no evidence, no cut cables... sorted

Take pics before and after, so you know what you did.:thumb2

Running a car on tick over for long periods is not good, especially if you have a DPF, Diesel particulate filter... :doh
The DPF will get blocked, due to low temperatures in the exhaust, then the engine will attempt to burn off the soot by injecting more fuel, or in the case of Citroen, more eloys fluid.
At some point, the filter will be blocked, and can no longer be regenerated, this will not be covered under warranty, and probably not on your scheme either.
The DPF is a very expensive item to replace.

thankyou all for your replies and help ...... I have a plan :sly ...... if you hear a big bang and bits of me flying all over the country , just ignore it :augie:lol
