Hi

Not sure if this has recently been covered but I have experienced a number of episodes of the back end of my Terrano doing its own thing on roundabouts and sharp bends.I don,t throw my car around so I don,t think its a speed thing and all tyres are good. Not sure if I read somewhere about needing to change the diff oil?

I was going to do this a few weeks ago but not had chance yet.

Any ideas?

Either change the diff oil for an "API GL5 LS" specification oil, (the LS is the important bit - limited slip) or apply copious quantities of OL to the steering wheel.

OL - opposite lock.

Thanks

Will look at changing oil today if not too big a job.As to the OL, getting quite good at it.

you'll need 3 litres, capacity is something like 2.8.

Just in case remove the fill bung before removing the drain bung, that way you know you'll be able to get oil back in before you end up with an empty diff. You really need a 13mm square sump plug key but a ½" drive ratchet/T bar etc works perfectly well.

I posted exactly this question a few months back, sliding out on wet roundabouts is caused by old LSD oil in the diff.
When it comes out it will be grey and quite thick.
The diff will start working better after a few hundred miles with new LSD oil. Coma do one make sure it is for LSD.
Note don't use this oil in front diff as this is a standard open diff..
Also it is essential for the rear tyres to have the same tread depth or they will try and work against each other, making the problem worse.

Mine`s a nightmare on wet roundabouts - i just assumed I was a bit heavy on the right foot. If I can`t sell it I`ll definitely change the diff oil - anyone know how long it is supposed to last?
It`s always reminded me of the good old days road rallying in my Mexico!!

60,000km - 36,000 mile according to the service schedule.

Where abouts are you from and when did you 'retire' from the lanes?
