Average MPG?

I was wandering what is the real MPG most people get from there Terrano/Maverick 2.7Tdi since had enough of my Impreza with its 18mpg economy with limited ground clearance on farm tracks and looking at PX it for a terrano/Maverick TDi instead since it may be cheaper to run hopefully.

Your looking at 25 mpg or thats what i get! Thats mixed driving to work which is round town up hill and all that, on a run maybe 27 -28 mpg

as above, on motorways it will creep up if the engine is tip top.

you gain a heck of a lot more than MPG though to be fair. The ground clearance and ability of the terrano is superb PLUS, you can run it off cheap veg oil thus saving you more money.

Also is the Terrano any better than the Maverick in terms of Rust and reliability since hear the SWB (Which I prefer) has wheel arch rust problems?

ok, its not 4x4 veg oil...its the stuff you cook with! Buy it from Aldi or Lidl etc, when its cheap. In the winter/cold, just add diesel to a ratio-some of the lads will come along soon and advise better than me on this, but yeah, when you can get 40 litres of veg oil for less than £20, youre saving money!

Now then, SWb and LWB comparisons. BOTH are the same for rust. Same places, except on an LWB, you have more to rust on the sills.

you MUST check the arches, inner arch both front sides, unclip the rubber guard and check the wing to chassis mounting. Check the front sill by the front arch (where the mudguard is-this is where the drainage is), all along the sill especially where the door edge is, then all the way to the rear arch, and THEN, check the rear seatbelt mounting points easily seen through the wheel arch-but also climb in the back, fold the rear seats for a better view-any rust, it will need welding.

ANY hint of rust on the body, you are guaranteed for it to be considerably worse where you cant see. Be warned!

Essentially, that's it, you can also check the rear door frame at the bottom right for the rear door-seems to be worse on LWB for some reason as I haven't seen an SWB with rust there.

The Maverick and Terrano are exactly the same except for external colour/styling revisions and interior seat patterns. mechanically, they are the same.

Since the turbo change, we have averaged 25MPG, but it dropped from 28MPG, when the turbo was pulling 2 litres of engine oil in, every 150miles.

I've had my Terrano less than a week, but I've already checked the mpg at just under 28. That's mixed country roads & dual carriageway, as well as me 'playing' a bit to see what my new toy is capable of :thumb2

When I first had mine, I kept a record of every fill up, for several years.
I used to travel from South Staffs to West Bromwich a total of 15 miles on urban roads, at never more than 40 mph.
A distance of 15 miles each way, and my 2.7td returned 30 mpg.
Journey time was 35- 40 minutes.

We are talking here... 18 years ago, Oh, did I ever tell you I have owned my Mav since new for 18 years...:doh

Well at least today I haven't...:lol:lol:lol:lol


I daren't check the mileage now, as it is only doing short journeys regularly, so I estimate low 20's:doh

But we do the mileage in the Picasso that returns close on 55 mpg, at 70 + tiny bit...:augie. mph

From experience in my Skyline owning days, the biggest improvement running a big diesel 4x4 is during short/town runs. I could squeeze high 20's out of a near 400hp GTR on a run but short/town/thrashing is realistically well under half of that and that's what brings your average down. The difference is that the diesel 4x4 will probably be doing at least 20 in bad conditions, that's what helps with your average.

I'm getting high 20's from my 4.2 Patrol which is as good as my previous tuned to 230hp D40 Navara. It's nowhere near as quick though but I'm now running 50/50 veg oil and I prefer the simplicity and ruggedness of my Patrol.
