autobox problem

hi all,autobox not changing when it should fluid seems abit dark,when struggles going up hills looked at the fluid level while ticking over right down near cold seems to struggle on the level basicly are we talking fluid change reason for asking just got the car use to manuals only forgot to add went to work today there a steep bank were i live lythe bank near whitby didnt pull very well when put foot down there was a loud wooshing noise just a guess lack of fluid in the autobox realy sluggish asking for your help once again men
