Hi all
suspect my auto hubs are not working as truck strugeled to pull caravan out of muddy field just jacked front end up and with 4wd high selected i can turn both wheels on there own but prop does not turn am i right in thinking it all should be connected?
only been used to peremenent 4wd before could they need greasing? any ideas
cheers Andy:nenau

The front prop shaft has to turn first for the hubs to engage.

You can go underneath, Engine off, handbrake on.

Be in 2 wheel drive high, rotate the front prop shaft by hand, from underneath, you can get to it easily.

If the hubs are locking after about 4 turns of the shaft both hubs will lock and the prop shaft won't turn anymore ( apart from backlash).

If only one locks the fault is with the hub where it's drive shaft still rotates.

Try this first.
Hope it helps to diagnose the problem.

Does sound like they're not working, have you taken them off and greased them ? Look in downloads for instructions. I'd add this advice : get a really good allen bit - the type that is set in a socket already - otherwise you may round the bolts off and they're pigs to replace.

Yes they work ok.
If you rotate the wheels now, they will unlock, rotate either way about 2 revolutions.
Great.:thumb2:thumb2

What tyres have you got on? Was it wet field and when did you do the LSD oil last?

i would say tyres were to blame as field was wet and muddy changed oil a couple of months ago as did full oil change on truck

i got stuck on a wet feild when the front auto locking hub didnt work

i hope its not a transferbox problem, stick it in 4wd drive about 100yards or so jack front up and see if the wheels are locked in if not then may be other problem
