Hi, can any one please advise me? I've recently purchased a terrano 11 2.7 tdi, se touring automatic, the transmission seems to be slipping, when you rev the engine, it increases the revs but the car speeds up slowly to the level of the revs, I've been informed this is normal for this gearbox, but am a little worried as I'm towing my 1.5 tonne caravan to scotland shortly, Help!!!

Hi, its supposed to slip, I tow a caravan with an auto box and its the same. It takes a bit of getting used to as you have no direct drive/link to the wheels until the torque converter locks up when you are up to cruising speed.

mine is a auto , it depends a great deal which setting you have the gearbox on ... assuming you have a mode switch like mine ... although mine is a import

depends how slow "slowly" is.....it shouldn't be that bad, although as mickmonk says, because its effectively a fluid coupling it will take a few seconds for the vehicle speed to catch up as you press the pedal, but not that much.... if its doing it badly with no load on the towbar might be worth getting someone who's used to automatics to have a quick spin in it.....can you feel the gearchanges happening OK?

If you happy with your acceleration, given your towing, then its normal for the cars speed to catch up with the revs, obviously there will be more revs as you are towing and therefore it will take a bit longer to catch up. As lacroupade says how slow is slow. Are you happy solo.
