Dear all,

I’m running a working party near Sheffield on Friday 16th August. The work will be taking place on Houndkirk Road, a route running from Fox Houses near Hathersage to Ringinglow, near Sheffield.

The work will be filling in puddles, digging ditches and moving some boulders that were put in to stop vehicles going into a stream, but which can now be removed.

It's organised with Sheffield Council who have always been very fair minded towards our hobby (see their comments on the original Chapel Gate eTRO) so I hope we can get a good turnout to show we're willing to 'do our bit' despite problems with the Peak District National Park Authority.

If you'd like to attend, please could you email me on [email protected] so I can get a feel for numbers. At the moment I have only three volunteers (due to holidays and the Roych decision) so I'm quite desperate!

We have to bring our own equipment: stout boots, waterproofs and work gloves but also hand tools - spades, rakes etc, as Sheffield don't have spare tools for volunteers.

Also, if you have a vehicle with a winch and would like to get it dirty moving the boulders, that would be much appreciated! Any volunteers with a Wacker Plate (for flattening down bunds) would similarly be extremely welcome.

The plan is to meet at the Ringinglow (Sheffield) end of the route at 10am and work until about 4pm.

I’d be very grateful for your help.

Best regards,
Clare Griffin

Are you attending in person fez?
Its a long way from your neck of the woods.
I haven't yet tried to do this lane although ive already marked it out on the map.I just haven't had time.
Is this road that bad its too rough for off roading?
I hear people have done the same thing at stanage and made it too tame?
steve

I'm not going up, It was posted on the local laning group which has lots of contacts with other groups.

Always good to put something back in, why stand around and do nothing? Some may say it's now tame but would you prefer it to close instead?

Remember once they are closed, that's pretty much it.

they have repaired houdkirk before and not all that long back, the problem with it is alot and i mean alot of motorbikes use it, they ride up it at like 25mph spitting up the ground behind them, then the horse uses come along and then the ramblers, then us 4x4 driver come along at 5mph and get all the blame, from what i've heard the local farmer has blocked it to 4x4 use but not being down that way any more i cant confirm.Houndkirk has always been tame anyway not like stanage used to be. but off roading isn't always about the thrill, houndkirk has some fantastic views as do alot of other lanes in the peaks that are just a drive along and nothing challenging, if you are around and can help out then do, houndkirk is fantastic for the views alone

moved to peak district section though is in sheffield so south yorks.

one of my faves, dunno if can get time off having just come off main hols.

would think weekend would get more support. will query.

Problem with weekends there will be more people using the lane. In the week they get alot less use so it's easier to work on them.
