I put the wheel locknut key into the the ashtray for safe storage, and safe it is. The ashtray won't open and it's stuck!!
How does the bloody thing come out?

Try and wrestle nut as close to you as possible, then press down on metal plate at top of ashtray. You might need a pen or strong stick to get the nut out.

I got something stuck in the tray recently, it was a bar steward :augie

So there is some kind of spring clip in there then that the bloody socket blocking then?
Cool, thanks.

For example if there was nothing trapped in the tray, it would pull half way out then you would press down (on the top) which is a metal sheet.

As the nut is keeping that pushed up you cannot open it properly. Try and pry the nut forwards with a coat hanger or pen ect ect :thumb2

Yeah don't want to break it, just see how you go, I had a crazy thought but it really is crazy..

Go up a steep incline and perhaps the nut would roll backwards allowing you to open the tray.. :lol

Only thing I can think of if it won't pull out at all is to cut an old credit card (or the other half:lol) in half lengthwise & slowly push in at the top & the card should bend around the the curves in the dash/ash tray & try to move the locking but about while pulling the ash try out & maybe down a bit. Can't remember if the back part is open enough but getting at the back behind the dash is not easy & times when I've tried/had to I got cut to bits:doh the other options are leave it there & remove the locking nuts off your wheels then fit new ones or & it would make me cry is get another centre dash, then remove 4 of the 6 screws holding the dash in place & pull it off:augie

I tickled it with the credit card for a while then gave it a bloody good yank.
The socket has been liberated.
Thanks all.

Glad you managed to get it out:thumb2 now put it in the centre console under the arm rest, glove box, door pocket or under the back seat as it can't get stuck there:lol

I'm trying to find somewhere where it won't bang and rattle around every time I go round a corner.

Wrap it in some bubble wrap done it with a few locking wheel nut tools over the years:augie never had locking nuts on either of my T2's

I've got a Jiffy bag knocking around somewhere, that'll have to do. :)
