can hear the motor whirring but it dont move up or down help,is it a pig to get to?

Not sure, but you might be able to get to it if you take the wheel off and remove the coverings inside the wheel arch.
Have a look and see what it is like.

Rossco's correct. You have to remove wheel, remove plastic trim around wing then the inner linning you will then be able to see the offending item, possibly 1/2 bolts holding it in possition ca'nt quite remember.there is a hard plastic toothed belt that drives the ariel up and down this probably will have snapped.Saw some on ebay a while back not sure if they would fit though.

Mine did this years ago, in the end I did as above BUT then I disconnected the plug/socket on the assembly and sealed each in a plastic bag, to keep water out. Saves the motor whirring away.
NEVER got round to replacing it, leave aerial up all the time, but my Mav is garaged every night.
