Have not done a lot of welding but I need to weld new brackets for rear drop links onto chassis . I'm sure battery should be disconnected. I'm sure I read somewhere to also disconnect the alternator. Anything else that needs to be done to avoid frying the electrics or ecu?

I always disconnect earth from the battery. I have heard people advise to disconnect the alternator and as you say the ecu but I have never done this and no problems so far. I have occasionally forgotten to disconnect the battery and not had a problem as well but I don’t want to make a habit of that.

I am by no means an expert, but on the welding I have had done recently on my 2 cars, some by me, and some by a professional, all we did was disconnect the batteries.

My car has a lot of electronics in it, and everything survived.

Yup, I usually try and disconnect the batt but like Jim don't always remember, I haven't experienced any issues but I will still continue to disconnect the batt :thumb2

The main issue is keep the earth very close to the weld point, I do not disconnect anything prior to welding, but would if earth clamp was at front and weld point was at rear, Rick

Thanks for all the advice. Will disconnect battery and attach clamp close to where welding on the chassis.
