put new check valve in pump running better.but still lumpy eml comes on goes off comes on.fault code 18 (paper clip).new fuel filter, banjo filter removed.its had partial fuel line replacement b4 i bought.could it be check valve near tank.anyone know which bosch pumps these are.what would recon cost. er indoors insists i fix i would fix with a box and gallon of 4* but cant afford the petrol

well, code 18 i get sometimes, and its a sensor in the pump as far as i know. i dont know if the sensor can be replaced, youd think so, but youd probably be looking at a pump out job/recon....as for cost were talking a few hundred squid. Thing is, i have a zexel pump, so it may be different on your pump, and im sure the bosch pumps are cheaper to buy/fix....

The Bosch pumps on these are the VP37, which is an electric spool version of the venerable VE.

Very frustrating I know, but I expect your problem is a very simple one.

You could pick up another VP for not much money and swap it if you didnt want to go down the rebuild route.

Have you checked the advance soloniod operation, and its wire for being chaffed, or a poor connection ?

Really it needs a dvm or better still a scope on it to check.

lol i would if i knew where it is.

do you mean where the injection pump is?

know where that is.its been another one of them days. my mate came over not conviced turbo waste gate was opening he remove cover disconnected c clip moved arm on waste gate but couldnt move operating arm.decides to rev bollox off me motor to see if gate opens told him it wont unless under load but he insists. rev, bang now need new rad, rad cowl, viscous fan.tit head left a spanner on top of rad.
by the way any idea what code 34 is.

clucking bell.

ok, code 34 is "needle lift sensor - incorrect signal. This means wiring, injector needle lift sensor or air in fuel.

I had to replace my Number One injector, as the sensor cant be replaced, not cheap im afraid, mine was £130.

its doin my head in now.i was getting code 18 replaced fuel return valve remove plug to inj no1 started with it disconnected .re fitted now get only code 34.is your inj a bosch or are they all the same. where did you obtain.

mines a Zexel pump, beware of rogue codes (i.e. other faults confusing ECU thus causing incorrect codes) this is why i ignore the code 18 i get from time to time.

i suppose you could just remove the injector, and take a look. You can see the little needle in the end of the injector, if its all crusty brown, thatll be the problem, or it could just be a faulty sensor, which is attached to the wires on the injector. You need a special socket to remove it, i had to make my own!

you can buy from SS diesel specialist, really nice guys and they know what they are doing, if you like i can dig out the number, but your injector might be different to mine as its a different pump.

that would be handy. what size socket to remove injector. is it a socket with window in the side.

yes, socket with window in the side but I had to chop off the solid part below the window, see here:

part number for my injector suggests a different injector for bosch pumps, my part number is:

Zexel 9443 610 385 NBF Injector, thats S&S Diesel Services 01489 893 834, worth ringing them anyway if you cant find decent refurb ones.

the socket is a 27MM Injector Socket, but obviously i had to use a grinder to cut out the bottom, and i had to be VERY accurate, as too much wont allow the socket to fit correctly, and too little wont let it fit over the sensor!!

Cheers for that will give them a ring on monday
