I'd be tempted to go for a mag mount myself, unless you want to drill body, then run the risk of it slapping the side of the body as it wobbles back and fourth.

I wanted mine in the back door originally. Apparently it's best central of the roof as it used the body of the vehicle too :nenau

Bought one of those for my car, but used on the wifes T1 instead. Very nice mount, and the 5 meters of cable was enough.

Unless you are trying to transmit miles, mounting on the edge is fine, just means you transmit more in one direction than the other. Lets face it, most only want it for convoy and p&p sites which are not very long range anyway.

Just go for an aerial with a solid base coil to reduce the twang, although Suz's has never hit the truck and that is an aerial with the spring shaped coil at the bottom.

I've used one on my defender 90, Worked well enough.

Easyest thing I found was to mount it on the roof towards the back, mag mounts fall off all the time in bushes, I pulled off rear door trim removed interior roof light so could pull down roof lining a bit drilled a hole fitted ariel run coal in head lining / down piller to under passenger seat for me.

Gets good swr and works well this is my second ariel but they will take a lot of abuse before they break.

Kind regards

Russell.

Get a bullbar and/or winch bumper and mount it on there, you know you want to, winch bumper provides a very good groundplane :sly

Also if it's in front of you the antenna acts as a good height measure if you're going under low arches etc

Wherever you put it having the coil below the roof line should help prevent things getting caught in it :nenau

Agree with LF about the twang, mine has a coil on the bottom and sways about all over the place when offroading although it won't hit the truck - let's everyone behind you know you're going through a bumpy patch :lol
