Hello again,

I am after some help on this one please.

When the torsion bars are refitted into the anchor arm would it be right to say that the car would be sitting too low. what would happen if the suspension was left like this?.

How would the ride be affected and could the vehicle be damaged and in what way?

Thanks,

Mav.

Not sure what state the ride hight would be when you refit as I haven't done it but I imagine it should be reasonably close to std and need adjusting.

How low is it? If too low you may end up bouncing off the bump stops which is dangerous, damage wise I can't see anything that would suffer but the handling is likely to be terrible as they move into +ve camber as they get lower so the tyres don't have a goo contact patch. I found mine handled much better when I brought it back up 40mm to std from the position it had sagged to.

It really doesn't take long to adjust the adjusters if thats all its going to take to get it back up. Are you sure you're not a spline or 2 out?@ How come you've had the bars out?

i aint no experet but have a litle experience on this and i believe it will affect the camber and cause uneven tyre wear, with the price of decent tyres it may be better to make sure that this is not the case!

mine was sat on bump stops rattled me fillings out didnt handle or anything much better now ive wound it up took it for tracking staright after just to be sure

i know this was coverd in an earlier topic somewhere but how do i bring the front up a bit.
HB you said it had sagged a little, just wanted to do it this weekend hopefully!!

I'm thinking of doing the same  were are the adjusters for the torsion bars & were do you take the measurements from & what are they as I seam unable to find them on the mannual i've got
Sorry for going off topic mav

Torrsion bars are very easy to adjust.

Where the torrsion bar is attatched to the chassis there is a verticle bolt, there is a lock nut on top. Loosen the lock nut and simply turn the head of the bolt a few turns and see how you get on lift wise. To see how much lift I measured from the tyre to the artch vertically and assuming your arches are the same on each side you can check its level.

Thanks for that i'll have to have a better look underneath  I measured from the centre of the wheel to the arch lip a while ago & the n/s was 1/4" lower than the o/s 8O

Thanks for the reply’s so far,

Mav.

I am sure its not the approved method but i have set mine measuring from the top of the ramps it stood on! It is a new Mot test and wheel alignment ramp so is level in all planes, i assumed this would make up for any tyre or other issues, but to be honest i dont think it makes a lot of difference. The T2 in question behaved fine afterwards!

wound mine as far as theyd go lol winch bumper on front weighs tonne without a winch in there when get round to putting winch in itll probly drop again!

nah take em out put em back in at bottom again lol im not tight just carefull lol the d40s use different setup maybe see how it bolts up maybe theyve utilised most of the chasis ford did on transit

One of mine was shaped like a banana after a lot of use, but it may have been weekend after a bump!

Luckily the lift is going well!

Not sur what manual you have got but have a look HERE on page 32. Picture 6 shows the bolt to adjust and picture 8 shows what to measure to set the height.

Thanks HB,guess what i'm going to be doing this weekend??

Have a look at thread 11 Sept on page 2. I got lots of good info on torsion bars from this,. Raised mine by only about 15mm, noticeable improvement. Put upgraded torsion bars on hold for now.
