So, after reading a few threads on here, two of them recent, I decided to check my heater plugs, here's what I found!

20160512_182143.jpg

The two with the green collar on didn't work at all, nothing whatsoever, not even when I tried banshee's fav trick with the jump leads and whip :D the other two didn't seem TOO bad but they will still be getting replaced and maybe kept in the drawer.

I had lumpy running from cold which turned to very lumpy running and would even stall when I started putting veg oil in. I found out that veg oil has a slightly higher combustion temp than diesel and connected that with the rougher starting, I will be putting new ones in tomorrow and I changed the fuel filter yesterday, oil and filter done a week ago so she should be in fine fettle :D

from the left 1 and 3 are ceramic, bin them, if the others work great but I would replace all 4, Rick

Agreed with Rick on the above

And nice to see another budding veg oiler :thumb2 If you ever need any advice ask away :thumbs

Yep agreed, replace all four to achieve an even burn.

You've done the hard work, getting them out without breaking them, so treat her to 4 new ones. NGK work well for me, I hope they are not ceramic

With Milner, you can't be sure what you are getting, I had two different brands from them on seperate occasions, might be worth a call first.

Note the Td ones are different to those fitted in a Tdi but luckily (Td) are cheaper lol.

The majority of us opt for Lucas LP079's, metal rod ones, don't get ceramic as when they die they break off into the head :doh

I took some advice I found on here and warmed the engine up before I removed them, I was pleasantly surprised how well they came out, four new ones will be in by the end of the day :thumb2

Makes laugh, 1 and 3 are the ones that worked :lol the other two do absolutely nothing, I'd presume they are the oldest ones and some cheapskate at some point just replaced two to get it to start. How often should they be changed?

Until they give up, if it starts and doesn't play up when cold, leave them be :naughty

Yes, it's surprising how much of a difference it makes.

Someone told this trick some years ago & I've never forgot.

It's even worth doing the Easy Start method if you're having problems starting just to get her going & warmed up (uhmmmmm, that sounds familiar :lol :lol )

Where did you get yours in the end? I've jus called my usual place, they've only got ngk at £25 a plug!!

Yeh I followed a link you put on another post but in ebay description it said ceramic, I was going to get them but I'm unsure now, there the ones you got for yours!!

Thats weird, the ones you want are Lucas LP079 Metal Rod :thumb2

the advert does state ceramic but I can tell you now the ones pictured are metal ones so query it when you order that they will be the exact ones pictured

Not happened today, I'm going to have to wait til Wednesday, ordered some lucas lp079 off fleabay for just under £40. I had a choice of £7 blueprint ones or £25 NGK ones locally, no way I was paying 100 squids for a set and I'm a bit dubious about stuff that seems too cheap, although I have used blueprint stuff before without any issues. It's doin my head in having to wait tho :(
