ive been traveling to my new job, 150 mile round trip, i filled up and it used half a tank! I was doing 80ish on motorways, is this normal consumption?

also has anyone had there 2.7 diesel remapped, to what results?

80ish why ?

80ish i think gets you there 10 minutes earlier than 60ish which is best speed for fuel consumption lots of info on here have you tried a search i just dont bother booting the terra i dont see the point at best on a run expect 30 mph try and keep your revs to 2500 and no higher threw the gears some one with more experience of these cars will be along soon :bow:bow

Originally my SWB tdi was doing 360-380miles/tank in mixed use solo and towing 10% of the time. Less in the winter due to the slower warm up and the viscous fan.

With the tuning box added and NO fan it rose to about 400 / tank.

Since then I am getting 400-420 per tank in its now-current tune .

You do the math.

ive been in touch with a remap firm from cramlington, he has recommended someone from stockton, i will have a pop over and have a chinwag with him.

thanks for the replys, will let you know how it go's

I know theres lots of debate regarding remap vs tuning box but at the end of the day a tuning box is mega cheaper, makes the engine livelier and returns better mpg.

On the mileage youre doing I would have thought youd soon break even on one off flea bay :thumb2

Yes, but it is a very fudged way of doing it. Undoubtably does improve MPG though, but only if you drive as you always did, and dont make use of the extra urge. Simply because you can get up the gears sooner and hold top alot longer.

Either really wakes up the 2.7 though. Happy in 5th at 1500rpm with real grunt from 1800. Only the remap solves the breathlessness after 3500 though.

I found with the box it made a real difference all round :thumb2

Driving as previously, better mpg. Unable to resist the difference similar fuel consumption but more towing grunt and faster off the mark.

Win Win and under half the price of a remap :thumb2

More up to date, the adjustable ones off ebay have 8 or so settings and setting three is around the level of a fixed one or even a "standard" remap. If you get the adjustable you can have much much more fun and get it to just where you want.

Interestingly theres a few cars around like the 2.7 g cherokee that the boxes work just fine with but opinion is split amongst remappers and a large number wont do it.

I spoke with a lad local to me who does a mobile remap service. Hadnt done a jeep before but it was listed in his book.

Didnt bother in the end.

Well I'll tell you what sold me on it eventually, and it was with the benefit of hindsight.....

I discussed ages ago with Timbo I remember, the issue of my engine 'fluffing' sometimes as the revs died, usually after I'd been crawling in a traffic jam and blipping the throttle, and was worse in colder weather.

Well in practice I soon found that you can tune that out by backing off the adjustment screw on the Tunit, but when you use an SVO mix, it comes back and needs backing off still further.

It was this ability to retune the box for prevailing conditions (and as the Tunit guy said, for changes such as a bigger exhaust, free-flow air filter etc..) that convinced me.

With a remap you'd either have to forego using SVO effectively, or have your truck remapped every five minutes.

On a stable setup though I can see it potentially has a slight edge, but I prefer the ability to be able to fine tune. My little box is stashed in the console with an electrical screwdriver so I can adjust it while I'm driving.

Tunit will even set it up on a dyno for you if you want.

youve obviously gotta inform your insurance company tho :augie . but cant do anything to a td really can you ?

rules are for the observance of fools and the guidance of wise men.

..of which, I am one.

plus of course a reload of ecu software is often the first step at some garages trying to sort out obscure running problems  bye bye £150 remap :doh

Had a good fart about setting one up on a car same as mine. Without using pro tuning equipment or a rolling road trial and error ruled. We adjusted it (following guidance from the supplier) until we were just overfuelling a tad too much and then backed off, bit like your setting up :thumb2. On the jeep it was easy, the ecu warning light came on, it seemed very sensitive to overfuelling.

Since then the car has gone like hot snot and returned very good mpg.

Could be tempted .................

You've got a Tunit on your Cheep? You old dog...is it the Tunit II or another variant?

Thinking about it.

I cant work out what the advantage of tunit is. Not knocking them at all. But theres a couple of very highly rated sellers on ebay who can supply one (as above) for under £100 as opposed to a tunit for around £400. Remap on my jeep is £157 but not particularly recommended.

The flea bay one we played with has been fitted for 3 months and working 100%

Im getting over 30 mpg stock ,as stated by jeep though Ive never hit the 34+ they claimed, so Id like to see if I can have the first 35mpg + grand cherokee :lol:lol:lol:lol

Probably wait until Ins renewal and go with someone like Petes who allow mods without silly prices :thumb2

You think I'd pay £400????

Nah, a much more reasonable £230 after a bit of 'offering' on eBay for a refurb direct from Tunits own ebay shop....

I suspect if I haggled I do better :) I may put some effort in later.

Mind you £200 is still higher than below £100 :D
