Got a love letter from the DVLA asking for my license back (don't run out till March:doh) as i've got to renew it every 3 years being diabetic:augie just hoping I get it back:bow TBH i've got perfect control of the diabetes just not sure what they are going to say about the nerve damage i've got & the pill's i'm on for it or if they are going to strip me of any more entitlements as i've lost my 3.5 & 7.5 tonne & even the 125cc motorbike learner bit:eek: Phoned up last time about it & got told I never had any of them:eek::eek: ermm yes I did as I passed my test in 1992 you stealing gits:banghead

Cheers but already away in the post:augie can get the 3.5 & 7.5T back if I pass 2 medicals every year at a cost of £400 the DVLA said:eek: might look into it thou as I would love just my 3.5T back as it would be very handy as we're getting a caravan so wouldn't have to worry to much by the weight of everything to keep under the 3.5T mark Took them 2 months last time as they went through every bit of my medical records thanks to a stuck up nurse working for the DWP who said no diabetic's should drive:jerkit: time before that I sent it off on the Monday & had it back on the Saturday:eek: yeah they really looked at things didn't they:lol
Sorry if i'm ranting guy's just hate the DVLA & pooping myself, makes putting a motor in for a MOT stress free:augie

do not understand the rules:doh:doh cos if they class you as fit to drive, it matters little WTF you drive, 3.5 tonnes 25 tonnes ??????????????????? mad, Rick

Sounds like a really cruel way of enforcing "damage limitation" to me

He's likely to do a lot more damage with a 25 tonner than he is with a car

do not follow that theory at all, a guy on a push bike can cause just as much damage, if the law says you are fit to drive then you should be fit to drive any vehicle that your licence says you are competent for, mumpties in control that sit behind desks and have no bloody idea, Rick

every year a mate of mine payes over 100 to get his doctor to give him the certificate so he can still drive his old old heavy moving truck at a show once a year, without it they wont let him drive, ins etc.mind you he is now 80 and still caravans.
there was a spate of dvla loosing peoples licences that befor they could drive now cant.especially motor bike stuff.

hope everything goes smooth Sweety, im sure it will. I never knew diabetics had this sort of issue getting a drivers licence, now I think about it I can understand but bloody hell if you have it under control then you should be fine.

Anyone could succumb to an illness when driving, with your medication in place your no different to a healthy person.

stupid DVLA rules!!

Best of luck mate.If you have it under control, then it should not be a problem. My eldest brother has this medical condition (also under control) he is still driving at the age of 67.

Sorry Sweety

I forgot to wish you the best of luck with it :thumb2

I'm also type 2 diabetic (tablet control, not insulin), DVLA have never even contacted me about it. Seems like it depends on what side of the bed the penpusher in Swansea got out of that morning!

I have had type 2 diabetes since 2005, but now inject insulin once before each meal and once at night. I used to have an HGV licence, but the DVLA gave me a 1 year licence and I had to have a medical every year. So I decided to give up my HGV licence :(

Now, as like Sweety I have a 3 year licence...

Good luck Sweety, against the forces of beaurocratic evil, oxygen thieving parasites.......:(

It's mainly just type 1 diabetics that get hammered from the DVLA but type 2's also who sadly have to go onto injections. If you have a bad turn & need help from someone else because of the condition that's it your banned for a year normally even if it happened in your sleep:doh & I get what your saying Rick & feel the same:augie

well im a multiple stroke / heart patient , and the only restriction on my licence is im not allowed to drive a mini bus ....... but I can kill people in a 7.5 ton truck with a trailer :augie

Forgot to up date this:doh I got a nice new licence last week:D nothing have been took off this time in fact they have put my learner bike (upto 125cc) entitlement back on:thumb2 Saw something on the net a while ago that the paper part of the licence was being scrapped by now well this mustn't be the case as the DVLA sent out both the photo card & paper part:augie

Well done then mate, as said before if you are entitled to a licence then it should be valid for all your passed classes, me I still have the old paper licence and nothing more, I regard the photocard jobbie as an identity card and will not go that route no matter what, Rick

Cheers Rick:thumbs they had it a bit longer than they normally do so think they have had another good look through my medical records again but they will have seen I keep my diabetic control very good to the point the hospital discharged me from their diabetic clinic which i've never heard of happening to a type 1:augie was a little worried about the nerve blockers I have to take but they must have been happy about them even tho it's in my records I can loose all feeling in my legs which isn't fun when driving:doh but TBH with the T2 having a stiff'ish throttle & not having sharp brakes like a lot of cars really helps in these times:thumbs I had no choice in changing from the old to new style licence
