New owner - 1994 Terrano 2 2.4SFI

Hello guys.

After other 4x4 (Vitara 1.9TD and Pajero LWB 2.8TD) now it's time for a Terrano.

The one i'm trying to buy is a 1994 Terrano 2 with a 2.4 petrol engine.
Here in Portugal, this model is rare, the 2.7TD is the king.

So i can't find informations about the car here.

Can you help?

Things like engine reliability? Diff Ratios? Does all the Terrano 2 came with LSD ? Etc...

Any info is welcome.

Thanks.

Welcome aboard, it’s mid morning here so give it a few hours for people to reply to you. I’m sure you’ll get some info as we have a few members with some advice for you.

Thanks.

This morning i did a test drive in the Terrano and i like'd.
It's from 1994 but it was well taken cared. Some plastics are old and white, but that is expected... 24 years old.

It has 169980Km (105620 miles) and its does match the mileage on the latests MOT.

I think i will buy it... what do you think?

And because we like pictures!!!

I have had several 2.4i they have more low down torque than the 2.7 but soon looses it as the revs climb, great towing motors, diff ratio is 4.625 teeth 37/8 the 2.7 is 4.375 teeth 35/8, if it rattles on startup it could be the ends but more likely the timing chain, if they get really bad then the chain can rub through the waterway to the water pump with disastrous consequences, yes they all have LSD on the rear, as for reliability they are very good, anything else you want to know just ask, Rick

Well, i just bought it!
News in a couple of days.

I have to buy new tyres, what size can i fit without any lift (suspension or body) ?

Thanks for the feedback.
I didn't notice any strange noises from the engine, even in cold start.

The problems will appear next week!

Like all things cared for well they last longer, and yours looks well cared for, others on here can advise on tyres, not my area on normal road going, my off road motor has 750x16 dumper tyres, you can look up the diameter on tyre comparison sites, I think they are 31 but cannot remember, but they do hit the rear rear inner arches quite hard at times when one wheel is in a hole, Rick

I will collect the Terrano tomorrow, so new batch of photos will be available.
To document the start of the project!

The forum doesn't have a search function?

It does once you pay your tenner, as does it open up the downloads section, Rick

Also take a look at download section in quick links. Some great how to guides.

When? It's already here.

And i allready have a endless list of fixes i need to do!!

But for now i have to clean the garage to store the Terrano.

And here it is.

I allready went for a little drive to try the machine.
But with slick tyres and lots of rain, can't do much...

Now let's talk about some problems and parts.

First and more important: when the engine is hot, after i lift the throttle the engine almost stalls. From what i read here i could be: vacuum hoses, EGR or the screw near the filter box. In what sequence should i check and test?

Second: Tyres and rims to install? (i can only use 235/75 R15).

Third: Easy mods to improve performance and avoid problems, such as:
- Blank the EGR
- Reinforce the idler steering

Parts i'm searching:
- Glovebox "latch", i can't open the glovebox... still don't know if i have anything in there!!!
- Air vents, both side and maybe the central too
- The plastics around the door handle in both sides
- window wipers stalk

Point me the way if you know where i can find them.

That's all for now.

Thanks.

Looking well nice is that truck. Look for a seller on ebay that breaks Terranos called CNCfabs, drop him an email and tell him we sent you. You may also find one or two members on here may come forward if they have the parts.

How are you going to strengthen the the steering idler?, I got hold of another steering box and cut the internals out, flippedmit round and bolted on with extra long bolts and spacers, a few people on here have done that. If you can find a rhd one though it would fit easier for you :thumb2
