Air intake duct

On the air intake duct, just under the part where it leaves the inner wing and turns towards the air filter housing there is a cylindrical appendage under the duct . It is a part of the duct and is about 12cm long, 4cm diameter. It has no apparent outlet and I just wonder what purpose it serves. Anyone know please :roll: :roll: :?:

I think it's to trap water if your unlucky enough to suck a bit in through the wing :? but i'm sure someone will know for sure :smile:
