Air filter

I would like some advice on after market air filters. Are they weorth it, and which ones? (2.7 tdi)

i love my K&N induction.

bit more MPG bit more BHP.. noticeable i think
 
In my old T2 (2001 2.7tdi) I had a reoccuring issue with the MAF going knackered - went through about 3 in 2 months!
Nissan replaced them (after alot of arguing) luckly, but never worked out what was causing them to fail, think they put it down to a 'bad batch'!!!

Anyways, earlier (before the original one went) I had serviced the car and fitted a cheapo micky mouse air filter.... after the third MAF a mechanic mate suggested I put a genuine Nissan one back in - hey presto, no more knackered MAF's! He reconed it might be something to do with restricted air flow.

OK, so I cant say for sure if it was the air filter.... but I'd rather spend £16 on a filter, then £100 on a MAF!

You cant beat a proper K & N filter, better flow AND still as good filtering stuff. Lasts for ever. All the deisel tuning guys recomend KnN:D
Mines been fine no issues with MAF so there:cool:
 
i have K&N direct replacent filters in two of our vehicles and have never had any problems, though i cant claim they have made any performance improvements, non that i have ever noticed anyway.

Sounds more like too much air, and crap getting in more to the point...the usual cause of MAF problems is shite on the wire - cos it is just nothing more than a hot wire (the extent to which it gets cooled tells the ECU how much fuel to squirt in) so I am buggered if I can see how to little air can be an issue, it would just cause underperformance (too little fuel). Still, perception is everything, so if it fixed it, it fixed it!

zipps, look at the state of your engine, get yourself a pressure washer and clean it, i bet you have to clean the outside before your wife drives it . :lol:lol:rolleyes:

Ive got one :clap never stays clean though out side is a bit dirty too
 
i'm realy not sure about the induction kit, it seems to suck in hot air from under the bonnet, next to the engine, rather than, cool air from out under the wing, surley it also represents a risk in deep water?

when moveing the air under the bonet is moving. so not hot air.

the intake is higher then standard, as the intake in the wing is lower.


i am looking into a raised air at the mo. but no idea if ill ever do it.

interesting ideas, but not strictly true, if the air is moving it will still be warmer than air sucked straigt from outside, and surley the turbulent air will increase the reisk of sucking water in? aren't induction kits like this aimed at road cars? It's a gamble i would be carefull about taking

the mans right Plank - been hearing these arguments for years.....best response is that these things are very widely used by the rallcross and other motorsport bodies...if they work in their conditions they'll work anywhere. Pipercross, K&N etc.. have been around for years and have too much history behind them for there to be any real doubt about their effectiveness.

Try one and you'll see what we mean. Not only do you never need to buy another filter but the instant and permanent 2mpg improvement that I got on both T2s I fitted one to, mean it pays for itself in about 8-10 tanks of fuel.
