Hi all me again !
Right the problem I have is I've got a strange sound from air filter .
When I Rev the engine and then let the revs drop the sound i here it's a bit hard to describe its like rubbing sound or like a bearing with no grease in it !!
Any ideas ??
Thanks Ryan

Is the air filter not sealed correctly or a pipe come off or leaking. Sounds like turbo whistle with air leak to me.

How long have you had the truck?

Have you or who ever had it before you fitted one of those air spinner/disturbance things in the air pipe. Not seen one my self but they seem to go through fazes of people thinking they are the bees knees.

Does it go exactly with the engine speed? If it has a delay and lags behind then may be it could be the turbo, but if it matches the engine, it could be the idler pulley on the fan belt, aircon pump or alternator. Even the water pump sound travels and is hard to place and on mine sounded like it was coming from that side of the bonnet.

I remember when I fetched Grandad's 3 litre and when i would go left around corners with the heater on anything more than setting 2 then the bearings in the heater blower would squeal like a pig, seems to have fixed itself now though thankfully.

New turbo, coming from air filter and happens when you let off the loud pedal....sounds like excess boost to me and possibly wastegate. When you let off the pedal the boost that the turbo has already created has to go somewhere, I'm not sure where it goes on these actually but I reckon thats what you can hear :thumb2

+1.......the tractor now has an intermittent squealing, following bumps and jarring from c##p roads.......or is it a sparrow living under the dashboard......:nenau

hi if I pull the black vacuum pipe of top of actuator I don't get the sound when revs drop ?

Annoying isn't it!!!! :doh Thankfully mine resolved itself and hasn't returned but that being said it hasn't really been doing many miles on axle stands :lol

The actuator controls the wastegate, thats on the exhaust side and opens up to bypass exhaust gas away from the turbo so it doesn't overboost and just to control boost in general.
If it sounds like there could be something loose get it checked out, it's probably just the noise the gasses make when the wastegate opens :thumb2

Not sure if the 3 has a wastegate as it is a variable turbo whatsit, Rick
