RHDTerrano 2 2.7 TDI 1999 owner. Recently acquired vehicle, A/C does not work, and its hot here!
A/C panel blue light does not light when button pushed in and no signs of cold air. Blower works (blows air) and compressor turns ok (as far as I can tell!). No sign of leaks on pipework. All fuses checked ok. I can't find relay idents. anywhere so can someone tell me what the 4 blue relays in the dash fuse box are and also the 2 blue relays in the front corner of the battery behind the drivers side headlight? I assume there is at least one relay for A/C.

Is there a way to tell if there is a problem with on/off switch? No audible clicks or signs of anything happening when on/off button pressed.

It almost certainly needs gas, there are two pressure switches, one on the accumulator left side of radiator, and one on the compressor, if it is low on gas then the one on the accumulator will be open circuit, (low pressure), if the system is blocked then the one on the compressor will stop the unit working (high pressure), when you say the compressor is turning do you mean the compressor proper or just the pulley with the belt on? I suspect just the pulley, if you look closely you will see through the gaps the other part which will also turn if the electric clutch is powered, Rick

As Rick says, but as another clue, when you look at the top of the condenser, they may be a small round window in the middle of the top. When the system has sufficient gas, you can normally see the marker dye (Green) through this window, when it needs a re-gas, this looks empty.

The condenser is an upright cylinder about 60mm in diameter, and about 150mm long, that is located between the Right hand headlight and the edge of the radiator. It has 2 pipes and some wires coming out the top, and the window is under the grime between these pipes.

They tend to need re-gassing every couple of years.

Thanks chaps. It's a bolt rather than a window on my pressure switch. It had a film of light green powder on it so, as you both say, it probably needs a re-charge. I'll get it done next week v. soon and report back.:thumbs

The air con doesn't tend to do well on these Terrano's does it :nenau
