Hi guys. Broke my aerial tonight in the multi storey car park. Twang twang twang twang then silent......
picked it up and it snapped the stud that you screw into the mounting so will have to replace the whole thing. No hardship but was wondering what you guys have replaced yours with. Ideally a shorter one would make sense.
It's mounted at the front of the roof. Access through the interior light I presume. [emoji16]

I can't comment specifically on the front one as I have never had one with the aerial there, but on the ones with it at the rear, the stud is exactly that, a shot length of threaded dowel, that screws up into the aerial, and down into the base, so you may be able to use a dremel or some such, cut a slot in the top of the bit that is left, and unscrew the remainder of the dowel.

I'll be having a look at it tomorrow but I did try and remove it some time ago. Seized solid it was. [emoji17]
cheers.

I did that with my old Mini reversing into our garage.
I replaced it with a different make that was about 3 inches shorter but still high gain or whatever.

You can get some really stubby ones but they have to have a signal amplifier or something like that and can be pricey.

Have to say the radio signal did suffer a little on Radio 4 !

center dot it and drill small hole to fit a small left hand threaded stud exacter.

im sure rick ( solarman 216 ) will have one for you :thumb2

I tried this but although I managed to drill down the centre ok when I turned the extractor it started to break up. The stud is steel and the mount is ally.
I drilled slightly larger, tapped it out to 6mm, done the same to the Ariel and used a short piece of stud to screw them together. Works ok but need a replacement. :(

I'll take a photo tomorrow and I'll take the sunroof switch out and photo the inside as well.
Cheers Rick
