Can anyone shine some light on this, heard that adding a little 2 stroke oil to fuel can help with the engine.I have a 2.8TD Patrol GR,anyone give me an idea of quantities please, thanks in advance:thumb2:bow

Recommended ratio of around 200:1 bud

I put around 400ml in my Trol's 95 litre tank per fill. Convinced it makes her run smoother if nothing else (it may also give a small mpg boost)

My 3.0 leaves less soot on the caravan when in tow, now I use 2 stroke :)

Been using it for a while now & the engine seems quieter & i'm sure i've gained 1-2mpg there is a couple of threads on here about it:thumbs

I have been using it too for last four fill ups, to me it sounds quieter, runs smoother.

200:1 diesel to 2stroke oil.
BUT oil must be low ash mineral type, NOT synthetic as far as I am aware.:thumb2

ratio schmatio... I just chuck "some" in every time I chuck some veggie in.

You will hear the engine note change, and everything will become slightly smoother and quieter, supposed increase in MPG.. never noticed that myself..

Well in simple terms, the more you add the more " overall fuel" you have in the tank so you will be getting more mpg, if only from the few hundred mls you put in the tank lol.

They say it improves the burn, so more efficient, but you probably getter a better fuel saving by using a lighter right boot.:nenau

The 2T oil I use makes the diesel turn a reddish colour, Can the Police tell the difference between red derv and added 2T oil if I'm pulled and dipped :nenau

The HRMC road fuel testing unit do not pay much attention to the colour.
Red or rebated fuel carries a chemical marker, which is what they test for. Also it can not be filtered out easily like the red dye.

ahh, i always wondered about this. Cheers for clearing that up :thumbs

I've wondered the same but the oil I use is green, but when I changed my fuel filter & emptied it into a jar it was normal diesel colour so I don't think it stains the fuel in such little dosages might be a different story if you had a couple of gallons of it in your tank

As Rustic says, mineral 2T only (forgot to mention that bit :doh)

Alex mate from memory you put in a LOT more than a ratio of 200:1...

Nevermind the fact that the ratio wasn't magicked out of thin air and so there will be a reason tha's recommended, at around £7 a litre, just "chucking some in" is probably costing you more than it should, for little or no extra benefit.

Don't know about the bottles you pick up, but all mine are transparent with a volume gauge up the side so it's not as if you even have to measure it out into a jug or anything.... :doh

halfords garden mineral 2 stroke oil. dirty old cheapie stuff. £5 quid something :nenau

Yeah quite right actually, I never measure is what I was getting at :lol

Maybe I should :p

doubtful. even if you did, I cant see the issue?such small quantities used its no different to adding and additive...:nenau

From what I had heard rumoured...:augie the formulation of two stroke oil is not that different to the main ingredients of a well known fuel additive ...
Which is also Red...:augie:augie
