Ok so the story goes had a look down a track today in the terrano (being nosey) at the end the track sloped down slightly to the usual huge pieces of concrete left by farmer to stop unwanted visitors.
The problem was that the concrete was getting to close for comfort as the ABS sounded like a machine gun blatting.
The track was stoney and slightly muddy but firm and by no means what you would call "off road" so my question is this is it normal as abs isnt designed for anything but tarmac or do you think i have a problem?
I was going very slow by the way.

No problem, if you did the light would be on. Abs is shite, do not rely on your brakes offroad, use your gears to slow down, and low box on descents, brakes for very low speed maneuvers

These trucks are heavy, add limited traction and its obvious what will happen

Thanks, thought that might be the case, just shocked how bad it was, really glad i havent had to find this out the hard way :D cheers.

I had the same baptism of fire mate, a few times I have been in car boot sale carparks on fields and ran on a bit when trying to stop, or pulling up on verges to let cars pass in country lanes and pushed the brake and ended up in a hedge :augie

Always a shock the first time it cuts in. That's what it does though. It pulses the brake that's locking up and the pedal feels really odd.
