Where can I get one?
Ive looked on ebay but there all for discos and are probably way too wide for the terrano.
there are some universal ones that fit like a roof rack in your door rubbers.
im thinking I may just have to buy some box steel and try borrow a welder to make one.

like the wiring idea to save drilling a hole through the roof.
I like the idea of the home made safari type roof rack (but not in wood).
If I was to make one it would have to be in steel and may weigh a ton.I would have to work that out.
and it would cost a lot.
I was thinking of buying one single peice of box tubing cut it to length.
then welding a 2/3" piece of the same tubing at each end and then welding a small plate on the end of them that could be riveted to the roof.
Using the same silicone you use to fit roof vents in a caravan between the bars and roof to secure a water tight fit.
cost
one length of steel.
silicone.
paint.
and spots.
bit of wire.
less than 100 notes for sure.

That roifrack is Swedish oak and cost me £0.00 as I got it from a mate in exchange for fiting a gearbox:D, its all been treated so won't rot, its very solid and ain't to heavy, I can even stand on the roof now:D

I used a standard Halfrauds roof rack designed for gutter mounting...

Basically you remove the bit that clips round the gutter, and then with a bit of shaping of the bit that would have fitted in the gutter, it fits perfectly at the front of the roof, with 2 rivnuts each side.

I nicked the idea off of someone on here, but can't seem to find the thread at the moment.

I did hit a bit of luck, as I managed to get an aluminium adjustable spotlight bar, and 4 spots from an auto jumble for £20, so used that for the cross bar.
