A SMOKING TERRANO 2 95 plate 2.7td Mistral.

Hi, Iam looking to regain faith in humanity. I bought this vehicle on ebay beliving the owner regarding mileage 95 thou miles(160k on dash board told it was in Km) and the small amount of smoke that emitts somtimes when accelerating. After taking it for a test run and inspecting the bodywork etc, we exchanged paperwork and I set off feeling good never having had a 4x4 before.
The vehicle blows out black smoke and is sluggish every time I accelerate, and it uses a lot of diesel.
I have replaced the oil,oil fiter,air filter,fuel filter and used fuel addatives
to clean the injectors.
The smoke has reduced somewhat but still embarassing when picking up the little fella from school - choking the shcool kids is embarrasing us both.

ive got mine for sale had a new engine at cost of £2600 about 18k miles ago if u know any one wanting one loads of other work been done too.

sounds like you may have fuel pump or injectors need servicing

Disable the EGR you will find a workshop in the downloads on how to do it, make sure you find the correct pipe am not 100% sure the correct one is shown in the workshop.

It will hopefully stop the smoke and give you a little more go, worth trying and simple to do

what colur is the smoke

white is often steam- head gasket but you would use water and get hot
black is often oil - tappets- oil seal- blocked air and many other things
grey i found is too much air- leaking fuel line sucking air in

Giving your idea ago on sunday ,the ERG has been dealt with and there is improvement.
I think we have the same model of terrano 2 mistral import fully loaded with electrics.

Paid £750 with no Tax or Test, does have 4 new tyres, lecky- windows , sunroof, wing mirrors good body work and blacked out windows. Passed mot and now has tax.
Only needed rear brake hose replacing and a good service.
Just got to sort out the smoke,

Get the injectors out and do a compression test. If this checks out ok, have the injectors re-conned by a reputable firm and the injection pump static timing checked, then go from there.

Should I now replace, fix or just leave as is.

I assume you have checked the exhaust for obstructions, and the turbo for seal / bearing failure etc..

Check all the vacuum hoses too- more or less depending on if you have throttle butterfly / EGR etc..

A check of the valve clearances wouldnt hurt either.

They are tricky to fine and need a bit of fishing around to find, but some people have been known to leave them out.

what ever you do, don't try and do it in the dark without moving the power steering pump and battery as per instructions. Otherwise you'll end up losing the spring and filter onto the driveway and spending two cold hours trying to find them.To top it all, I've rung my local nissan dealer for replacements only to be met with "a what" don't think we do them!!!!
