hiya guys.

i have a problem with my mav in that the water pump has broke and i need to get it fixed by the end of today so i can get to work in it tomorrow. i have the part and ill pay £60 to whoever comes and fits it for me or at least lends a hand. im in paddock wood, tonbridge.

i would normally have a go but ill only end up making it worse lol.

please pm me if you can help out this evening.

cheers, simon

Sorry mate, geographically challenged at the mo, being in the wild west:augie
Also my truck is doing a rather good impersonation of a Charlie Dimmock water feature at the mo too :doh
Go on out there and start stripping it down though, it's not hard:D
Good luck

if you get here im sure we can do it between us..

hopefully some one closer can help though.... save you driving a long way with a leaking pump...

thanks to everyone for there help on this. im going to chance it to zips house and see if we cant completely screw it up lol. the pump ive bought is nice and shiny and comes with a new gasket and fixings. the coolant hasnt completely gone and is between the min and max at the moment. ill be taking at least 6 litres of water and 5 of coolant for the trip as i dare say ill need it.

if between now and 3 someone more local to me dont mind helping then please pm me and ill make arrangements.

cheers, simon

Before you go off check the radiator level and not the header tank :thumbs

only just picked this one up as at work. its either me or rick who is quite close.... not sure id risk it with a petrol one. possibly would with a tdi if it was not pissin out.

ill text zippy see if he made it

a MASSIVE thank you to zippy

all i can say is that zippy is one member well worth having on your friends list. bloody awesome guy and a nice family aswell. got stuck in straight away and im pleased to report that the 125 mile journey there was completely uneventful in regards to any overheating/coolant issues.

in total i think i lost around an inch of coolant all the way there. i suppose with the car being in motion it had some kind of effect on the pump as it only pissed out when i was stationary.

after fiddling with bits and bobs we didnt really need to, the belts came off and the new pump was back on in a jiffy. the gasket had completely perished on the old pump and a bolt or 2 was missing, whch led me and zip to the conclusion that the pump had been off before and the gasket not replaced.

didnt need to drain the cooling sytem either. lost around 2-3 litres of the 7 it holds when the pump came off which zip replaced with the mountain of bottles of water i had in the boot.

nice to have a shiney new part on the mav and was also nice to give it a good run as i could pick out any other niggles it had, of which i have found 1, the tracking nees doing and thats it.

anyway, sorry to babble on and again, my thanks go out to all the members who gave me advice and to zip for letting his tea go cold whilst he rescued my mav.

cheers, simon :bow:thumbs:bow

just sent pm simon, but glad you have it fixed, but you wont hear the end of zippy's cold tea now:doh,

Well done Zippy, I have been busy all day, but been in or around, and only just come on line, if I had seen it earlier he could have popped over to me no problem, he is only an hour away, any way glad it is all sorted, Rick

i would just take plenty of water, save the coolant / antifreeze for when the leak is fixed and save yourself a few quid :thumbs

we once had a matric go on a glof gti towing a caravan back from cumbria , we bypassed it and drove the next 170 miles with a rad full of appleade! the car is still going now!

i am zip thanks very much fella. it was a great drive out aswell. nice scenery and i actually got the mav to do a little bit more than 70 on the way home as there was loads of downhill sections on this big private road i found!!! lol
