I have just swapped the alloy wheels on my mav for some steel ones, but the were catching a little as the bowl was not as deep. now what i have done is use some large washers to space out the wheels and this has given me about 4m from the disk and hub. The wheels have plenty of thread to hold them on and i have done all 4 of them, not just the front that where catching. So the wheel base is the same all the way round the truck, im just wondering if this is safe or not. I know you can get wheel spacers and the washers i have used are pretty big, so im hoping its ok. Any advice guys?

I personally wouldn't use them.

Proper spacers or get new rims :(

Would get some proper wheel spacers

What's the tread like is it clearing on full lock

depends but anything smaller than 30mm will act like a big washer. You need to make sure theres enough thread in the nuts.

Yes Buzz, works well to be honest, i just looked for a quick fit to get them on.
I think im going to have to get the wheel spacers though to be on the safe side, just seeing if anyone else had tried it.

are you sure ? They were £18 plus delivery when I looked :nenau. You'll need longer studs as well. There's a proper set for £75 all in on ebay

Think you will have a insurance issue with useing washers if the worst happened?:nenau
you might still have to inform them if using propper spacers?

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: get those firking washers off boyo:eek::eek::eek::eek:
As above spacers of 5mm or more will need longer studs usually but you may get away with it on steels. Are you using the proper wheel nuts for steels aswell?
PS "GET THOSE FIRKIN WASHERS OFF"
and relax :thumbs

what are the proper wheel nuts for steel rims? As my standard spare is a steel rim and the main rims alloy untill friday ;)

I dont know exactly mate, but alloy nuts have a dedicated taper to suit wheel type. I think the steel wheel nuts are a different shape, but hey I could be wrong :augie Best check:thumb2

I think as-long as the taper is the same and flush then should be no problem.

Good point, also as you have both to hand can you see a difference? :nenau

Swapped the washers to 6mm alloy spacers, the thread was plenty long enough for a strait swap too. :clap

You do have a point about the nuts being different, but i think its the other way round. If you had Steel rims and went to Alloys you may need to swap them as the steel rim nuts used to cut into the alloy and they could fall off, alot of alloy nuts had some sort of large washer on them, my dad used to call it a shank, what it did was prevent the nut cutting into the rim. If you go from Alloy to steel it should be ok because even if it has a shank fitted it just means it wont damage anything:thumbs.
