Hi All.

I have owned my trusty 97 2 door 2.7 TDI Maverick for 15 months and except for some serious front mount welding for MoT and general servicing it has never missed a beat.

However I noticed the passenger foot well carpet is soaked underneath. At this stage no idea why/where any leaks are but bet recent wet weather has contributed.

Guess you take seats out to allow the whole carpet to be removed for drying but that wont fix the cause.

Is there a known issue or any clues where to look for cause.

A few checks.

Check the moisture, has it got antifreeze in. This would indicate heater core.

Open the door and look behind bottom hinge. Mud builds up behind there which causes water build up as well as blocking sunroof drain.

Remove the wiper arms and the black plastic trim between windscreen and bonnet. At the passenger side you’ll see a inspection panel above passenger footwell. Remove panel and seal up with automotive sealer such as tigerseal.

Has it got a sunroof, often the drain pipes at the corners can drop off. Remove sun visor, grab handles and door seals to allow access behind headlining to confirm the drain pipes are secure.

Lastly the tailgate seal often fails, water gets in and runs forward.

For my money the inspection panel which is second item down my list.
