4 bolt towball mount

hi,

I have a bracket that features instead of 2x m16 holes, an arrangement
of 4x m10 bolt holes in spacing 85mm x 45mm. The ball is by brink, which
the bracket may also be though I thought it might have been a witter.

it does appear heavy duty, though getting accessories much more tricky.

i've seen a jaw-ball/pin combo via a google search for £120 which is a bit
steep when can get a 2 bolt dixon bates job for around £40. whilst both
are rated to 3500kg, the 4 bolts pin was upto 5000 rating somewhat ott
for a truck with a max weight of 2800kg??

once saw an adapter for sale that allowed standard 2 bolters to mount
and still kicking myself as it also formed a spacer, handy as the current
ball position is under the spare with clearance issues for some couplings
esp. stabilizer types.

looking for any advice, details of dealers of above or better priced
ball/jaws as getting to point where might ditch the hitch for a whole new
bracket to simplify the mount.

only postive thing found to date is that a nato hitch might share these
4 centres but bit ott on t2?

Possibly Scott, who is doing our front bars, yep have mentioned it to him already but
thought would open it up to all.

Surely if you've got the standard T2 towbar, the cost of a new two-bolt ball hitch and a spacer is just a few quid? I bet you're going to tell me now its a non-standard setup...

4 bolts, differing centres and diameters, it all there in first sentence. changing bracket
all way back to chassis hardly a few quid??? hence post.

got a partial resolve at towsure today, retaining 4 hole bracket, got a stabilizer
receiver plate for a snakemaster blade type. the regular holes will take my m10
85mm centre bolts at an angle within them, am adding a further alloy spacer
then an inch spacer for other pair. Atleast ball is starting to come out from
under spare, not sure if will need stabiliser but atleast there for backup as not
going friction coupling type. only other issue have messed up departure angle
with this drop plate but hey can alway take it all off, like dinky does for proper
off roading.

Double locking system, suitable for 51mm section ring eyes.
This Towing Hitch should not be welded or modified in any way.
Always use 8.8 tensile fixing bolts and the original safety chain.
Lock the hook by fitting the security pin. Never use without the security pin in place. Check regularly for signs of wear or damage.
Never replace worn parts other than with original parts.
Clean and grease regularly.

The bracket has 4 holes for m10s, were 60mm got some new 70 and 80 mm to allow for
spacers.

TB seen those nato still ball units what a neat idea. I emailed some sellers on ebay and
it appears normal nato pintles use my 85 x 45mm centres which means my bracket is
obviously HD design.

previously found on net jaw/ball combos with 4 bolts for around £120 which is more
than twice a 3500kg dixon bate type, so again must be for tougher military or agricultral
markets.

other night found on fleabay a ball on a thread so could use with that yank pintle, not bad
at about £8, item 160315684260 described as a screwball from dealer autocentre of Perth.

thanks for links, but m10 what came out and they are ht and 4 of them, as per
nato, confirmed with a nato seller both private and dealer john craddock well known
in green oval circles! to fit larger would mean drilling out tow bracket and existing
forged brink ball so think not, getting closer to their outside edges.

Imagine that spread load, as per surface area of 4 m10 is greater than 2 m16?

yes, but, the cross sectional area of 4 m10s is 314 sqmm an that of 2 m16s is 402 sqmm

fair enough, must be down to distribution, as said if good enough for a pintle or a 5t
hitch will do, atlernative is ripping brack et off and fitting something else that terminates
in a pair of m16s, or weld on a receiver tube and go yank slot in route. will do for now,
already raised receiver issues with Scott, as per front towball fitting, see how that goes
as at mo, running round with new ball on back feel quite naked and vulerable afterall
cant tow if need too....
