I have loss of power from the alternater on my 1994 4.2 desiel patrol.

Haveing studied the haynes manual, it says when disconecting vacuum pipes from the pump , and oil supply and return lines to put rags under the alternater to catch any residue of oil .

Does the system need to be bled when the pipes are reconected, and are new washers required for the conections.
I found the haybes manual a little ambigous as it does not even say what the oil lines are for, or what the vacuum lines feed .

Am i right in thinking the vacuum pump is for the clutch booster ?
And is the oil just for pump lubrication .

Any info to the above would be helpfull.

Also information to obtain an alternater at a reasonable price would be appreciated.

id fit new compression washers transits have same system as do mistrals (swapable???) thik oils there as pump lube on others its a brake servo booster

Took the alternator off earlier , all pipes to the vacuum pump can be removed without to much trouble .
Lubrication to the vacuum pump is by engine oil.
Priced a replacment alternator from Nissan £365+vat. Milners £130 +vat and postage .
I took it to a local auto electrical company who gave me a ballpark price of £60 to £70 to overhaul it .
Pays to shop around :p
