Whats everyones thoughts on the 3.0 engine terrano good or bad thinking of changing to one ive seen 0n an 06 plate.

TBH I didn't know - but having just checked the workshop manual no they are another chain driven cam engine.

Even if they were it wouldn't put me off - just change it when you get it unless 100% certain its been done and then err on the side of caution at the next change.

The 3.0 litre is great Ive got one pulls like a train goes like a rocket. I get stupid looks at the lights when I pull off a bit sharpish as it stonks mi tyres and lays down rubber!
If you drive sensible you also get over 30 to the gallon so its more economical than 2.7.
I pull a big caravan with mine and its like it aint there!
Its been very reliable and the oil filter is a breeze to change. Go trat yourself and dont look back you should be well pleased.

Vert good truck and loads of power if needed and general driving get about 32 mph .
Iwas going to sell it but have decided to keep it as its also bloody good off road .

I love them. but when i saw what they wanted for road tax £400 :doh that put me off. You are ok with a early one though taxed the same as a 2.7.

incredible, hard to believe what another 300 cc does, was happy with my
2.7tdi t2 but the troll is something else. a lot more torque, toddles round
t junctions in 3rd that would see the 2.7 labouring, or trying to judder to
a stall.

average mileage has dropped from 25 to 22 but tows 1600kg tin tent at
this rate too, which isnt too bad for a gross train of over 4 tonnes.

love it wouldnt go back, unless 2.7 was back up motor.

Can't fault mine, we do loads of long runs and we get 30-35mpg whilst being able to keep up with anything in the fast lane, loads of torque for overtaking. Plus, I've had the car loaded to the roof with really heavy stuff and noticed absolutely no difference in performance or economy.

I am just about to give up with my 3.0 T2 to be honest:confused:
and now after reading what Thomas-the-Terrano2 said about his troll
I am starting to think there is something wrong with mine,

"a lot more torque, toddles round
t junctions in 3rd that would see the 2.7 labouring, or trying to judder to
a stall"

I am starting to think there is something wrong with mine, It will struggle pulling in 3rd at 25mph without juddering like hell?? it has always been difficult to drive with not wanting to pull off from lower speeds without changing down all the time and with the whole thing just juddering, this just makes for a very uncomfortable and noisy ride!!! it will on a straight empty road pull fine when you can just put you foot down but any other driving it's a matter of constantly up and down the gears.

The first thing my father in law said when we picked it up and struggled a bit to drive it through villages "this doesn't feel like it has the torque/power to tow anything!!"
and this was getting in it from my Mercedes vito van with the smallest engine!!!

I do tow my horse box with my kids pony (only a small pony they are only 6 and 8 years old so not that much weight) and anything slight incline under 55mph on the motorway and I have to change down into 4th?

In all other ways it seems a great car but after 8mths of owning it I think it's time to go??
I Really don't enjoy driving it:(
Does anyone have any idea's as to whether it has a fault or is this just the way they drive? :nenau

sounds like maf to me as well. i was towing my caravan when ours gave out, oh what joy up the hills. LOW 4WD... just to crawl up

Is there any way to test the Maf? or is it a matter of just changing it?

The wife thinks they have fitted fourth were third should be?? which is exactly how it feels?

definitely something wrong Jay...where in wales are you? we can let you try a 2.7 and see how that compares.....

You could try un-plugging the MAF and driving the vehicle, if its no worse then more comprehensive checking of the MAF would be the order of the day.
